So I went to Comp USA the other day to buy a new computer.  Either the 933 MHz g4 tower or the 1.0 Dual GHz G4 tower.  Whichever was in stock.

Of course I needed a monitor, and since i am a gamer, i was going to get one og the 17" or 19" viewable apple CRTs.

But No!  Apple doesn't make them any more! they only make LCDs.

Now, as every good gamer knows, as sexy and thin as LCDs are, they just can't match up quality-wise to a CRT.  Most people can't tell the difference, or need the precsion of a CRT, but for a gamer it is important.

Now I'm told that Apple LCDs are far better than PC LCDs, thus shrinking the gap between LCDs and CRTs, but they still cant do what the CRT does.

So I'm thinking, does Apple know what they've done here?  if you ask me, they've shot themselves in the foot, yet again.  The needs of mac gamers are being ignored, and this will only shrink the mac gaming community further.  Not cool.

Umm, Apple stopped because they like signed with Mitsubishi or sometihng.  So just by a Mitsubishi Moniter silly.  You dont have to have an Apple CRT for  a  Mac.

Thats exactly right Jeb. I have a Sony 19" Trinitron and have had for I'd say 4-5 yrs and its great.  You dont need a Mac monitor.  And I dont know if they are cheaper, but they should be (my bro bought it).

I have a nice 22" third party monitor. It works great, because I run RS at a 640x480 resolution, and can snipe people without zooming because my monitor is so big. weeeeeeee

Damn Mort...for a college student you've got an awful lot of expendable income!

Whichever was in stock?  Gaaa...only a few hundred dollars difference right?  No biggie...

Never mind that you can customize it and still spend less if you order from an outlet like MacZone, MacMall, etc.  Sometimes they don't even charge you shipping!

What are you thinking?  Must say I'd have to agree with Wombat there.  Be sure to clean and dress the wound properly to avoid gangrene  Wink

Ahh, i see that my friend Loud and his cronies have found a way to prove Mort wrong/unitenially stupid.  but I won't let you have me that easily Grin

I did not mention this earlier (because it seemed unimportant) but the comp USA mac guy and I had a nice long chat.  he tried to convnce me that the Apple LCDs were good enough for my needs.  Though intrigued, I still requested to see the best PC CRTs, and he brought me right over to the sonys.  I do plan to get a 17" or 19" sony.

As for the new G4s, time is of the essence. I need to get my computer before Friday.  And i have as much money as reasonable available.  Hence the reason I walked into (and will again walk into) comp USA.  though i do plan to get 512 or a gig of ram off the net somewhere.

This whole post was less about me and more about apples marketing stategies.  Sadly that intrests no one but me.

You might get a better deal if you buy it from www.maczone.com

They might even give you a free printer or free memory with your G4 purchase, so you might want to check there first.  With overnight free shipping, you just can't go wrong.  Check it out! Wink

I would have posted this earlier, but I went to a concert (Koufax/Piebald/Hey Mercedes) the minute I finished my purchase.

Because I was unhappy over the monitor situation I did not buy my computer last thursday. ?Unwittingly my delay allowed ?apple to release new G4s.

I would have had a 933 GHz G4 tower. ?Now, for a comperable price, I will have delivered tomorrow a new dual 1 GHz G4 tower.

Of course i'm still unhappy with the monitor situation.  They were offering the mitsubishi CRTs, but they don't satisfy my needs, so I'll be going to comp USA tomorrow and getting a sony 19".

I've never been able to see the difference between sony monitors and apple monitors since I've only owned a laptop (craptop). I hear the Apple 17" monitor is decent along with the Sony 19".....When I get a new computer I'll probably get an apple display.
