I just watched Urban Cowboy with John Travolta last night.  I know it came out in 1980, but that's the first time I've ever seen it.  Not a bad movie for its age.

We just went to go see RENT the day it came out and damn is it amazing.  I cried through the whole second half of the movie, my gf was wiping tears off my face, I don't know why it effected me so much.  The fact that it was a musical was different but I liked it, I came in unsure of wether I would enjoy them breaking into a song every other word but I came out . . . well I came out in tears, heh.  It's such a great movie just talking about racism and ignorance in the U.S. and it really has good themes all throughtout the movie, sometimes when they had guys kissing guys ect. I got uncomfortable but you really get attached to these people and feel for them and all they have to go through.

BIG thumbs up!

i saw rent as well and thought it was great.  Although I agree that it does serve to point out man inequlaity issues, I dont think its specifically tied to the US.  It just happens to be set here.

I watched Finding Nemo on TV last night.  It was a Thanksgiving special and they showed it for the first time on network TV.  We have it on DVD too...my daughter still watches it about 5 times a week with no commercials, but she still had to watch it when it came on TV even with all the commercials.  Go figure.

We just saw Harry Potter - it was alot darker than the others.  Finally the storyline went away from, they go to Hogwarts, something bad happens, harry fixes it, they leave hogwarts.  I still am not a huge fan of it but that's probably because I haven't read the book and I don't plan on reading the books either but my gf drags me to the movies more or less.  Rent still owns Harry Potter in my opinion.  My gf said she almost cried when the kid was killed by Voldemort - I didn't understand because if you want to evoke emotion in the audience you have to get the audience attached to this character that is killed.  Rent did a great job of that, Harry Potter certainly did not.

I give it a "Meh" - take it or leave it.

Shade, these movies make so much more sense/ evoke so much more emotion if you have read the books... I dont understand why you say you wont read them.  Unless you just dont want to read good literature (At least give them a try.) If you havnt read the Harry Potter books the movies wouldnt make much sense, thats for sure.

I have to agree with dark completely on this.  I read the first three books and enjoyed the movies just as much as the books.  But the fourth book I never got around to reading and I think the movie was terrible compared to the others.

I just saw crash which was pretty good, but it got really preachy in parts and some scenes were just terribly written.
