Well, as some of you may know, I live on the beach on the Gulf Coast of Mississippi.  Hurricane Ivan is currently a Category 5 (the most destructive category) and is heading my way.  I will be leaving Mississippi tomorrow night for North Louisiana (my wife's sister has a house there) and may not be back for a while depending on the power/devestation situation.  If it misses us or does little damage then I will be right back, but if it is really bad and actually strikes us as a Category 5 then I may not be back for weeks.  So anyhow, if you don't see me for a while, that is why.

P.S.  Many people don't leave the area for Hurricanes.  I find that to be rather stupid personally.  You don't really get any warning for earthquakes, volcanos, and tornados (I have lived in places with all 3 of those), but you do know when a Hurricane is coming, and you are able to leave its path.  So I'm doing the smart thing and packing up my Wife, my 5-year-old Daughter, and my Macintosh and heading out of town.  Hope none of the rest of you are in the way of this Hurricane (the only one I know of for sure is former BTs_Tosh, who lives in New Orleans, LA...about an hour drive from me).

Peace.

I couldn't agree more about people who don't leave their houses for hurricanes. My grandparents used to live in Florida, and I helped them prepare their house for hurricanes several times, before leaving it. It's the sensible thing to do.

Best of luck, look forward to seeing you back soon.

I don't know if I'd leave town for a hurricane. I'd volunteer to help with officials. As an Environmental Scientist who has done some climate/meteorology study I very much would want to stay and witness it, but keep safe, just like all the media people and such.

Anyway, I hope the hurricane manages not to cause much damage and everyone in the region gets out as best they can.

I too am the type person who would stay to help out.. But thats also b/c I used to be a firefighter and I still have my EMT cert. Plus I'm also a emergency comunicator with the HAM radio group in my area.

My grandmother and all my mom side of the family lives right in the past of the storm. They are leaving to go to alabama to miss the strong part of the storm,

Um, guys, if this thing hits as a Category 5 you may not survive TO help out.  I'll be back right after it hits to help out....but there is no way I'm staying in my house on the beach waiting for a 20 foot storm surge to roll over me.

Peace.

Best of luck, look forward to seeing you back soon.

I think Typhy just wished you good luck, GS. Instead of him saying I hope you die on the way out of town, he wished you good luck and hoped to see you soon!

Lets see you come back with something nice!

I was actually going to blame Gay's and Liberals for God's wraith, but that's just me.
