Where is the knowledge we lost with information?

« on: June 09, 2003, 09:23:54 pm »

I was wondering what people who bought and people who "bought" St. Anger think of it. This is not me asking for your small little post saying "Metallica sucks" im asking you to stay out of it if you just don't like Metallica unless you actually have the cd and not just judging off the single. I have heard mixed things about it so I was just wondering. I personally like it cause its something new and modern instead of them doing the same kind of music. So what do you all think?

Yeah, I listened to the whole cd, and true it is something totally different, but thats what they aimed for. And yes, Lars is a turd. Biggest j00 muddafucka you ever saw.... But anways I think the instrumentals are damn cool, the lyrics are ok, but seem wierd with the music. That's my humble opinion.

I bought the album, and from the few times through I like it. It doesn't compare to a Ride The Lightning, but it is still a good album. I'm impressed that they are willing to go out on a limb and try something new.

it sucked  Angry and my best friend plays it ALL THE FUCKING TIME.

sure, they were aiming for something different, but musicians should stick to playing what they're good at playing. they don't want to pull a vanilla ice on us (i hope).

has anyone seen the st anger video? it's terrible. aghhh.

Since no one has done it yet, I figured it had to be done by someone:

Metallica sucks, their entire catalogue is one big piece of musical shit.

being a drummer and hearing the snare drum Lars used i do not know what the fuck he was thinking, that is the single most annoying sound i have ever heard on a recorded album and even worse i heard he used that same snare on the entire CD so just because of that snare drum i will not purchase that CD.  If you want drumming anyways you gotta go with Tool, hands down best band anyways =P

A blast from the past...

St. Anger is different because the singer (James Hetfield) doesn't drink or use drugs anymore and he let the whole band contribute on the lyrics instead of doing it himself (he used to write all of the lyrics by himself). Also, while he was in rehab, their bassist (Newsted) left and they hired a new one away from Suicidal Tendencies.

I have yet to listen to the new album, but I can't imagine it being better than their old stuff.

As for St.Anger, its ok..i think they really airnt trying to reinvent their music you know?

Take a different path, they are the same power cords and heavy bass riffs..its getting old...

The three posters i agree most with here are cookie, tasty, and jackal. The Deftones pwn Metallica dead. Cow, you should check out the drummer from Snot, he's damn nice. And as for the new bassist of Metallica, i can sum him up in one word: Ape.

Thank God someone else thinks that, Cow. Dear lord, what was he thinking? It sounds like he's playing on a little kid's toyset right infront of a microphone. That snare is absolutely disgusting. Not to mention the drumming drowns out the bass playing...not that you're missing much anyways..hahaha. I've never been very impressed with Metallica's bassists, even Cliff Burton. He was good, but then once you listen to a real player...
Anyhoo, I'm getting off topic. So far, all I've listened to is the single and a few songs when I was at my buddy's house. It's good to see a band trying something new, but it just sounds like a lot of the other crap they play on the radio. Bob Rock did an absolutely horrible job producing the album. I'm not a big Metallica fan, but the album had so much more potential. Too bad they blew it. I hear that there's no guitar solos on the album, either. Makes it sound a lot like Nu-Metal. Kirk never played any solos that blew me away, but still...Not a Metallica album without a lot of guitar solos.

I haven't heard any of the new CD yet, but I was gonna comment on the new Deftones album. Yes, it's good. But when your brother plays it at least 3 times through every day it's overkill. Don't get me wrong, I love the Deftones. But my god... I hear way too fscking much of 'em.

On the last track of Tool's album Aenima, there's a little rant about how all good music is created through the use of drugs. If Metallica's new album really sucks, maybe this is true. I'll reserve judgement until I actually hear it. This is the third time I've heard the no solos rumor... I'm praying it's not true.

I'll jump in here and say that although I'm not a really big fan of the genre, the Deftones are a really good band in my opinion. Both White Pony and their new one are amazingly good.

I remember when metalica was cool, and that was a very long time ago (master of puppets, ride the lightning, ect)

Then they got cleaned up and started crying about everything
"oh boohoo people are downloading our songs"
-i guess thats a bad thing for them since they don't make much income off their old stuff, and their new stuff sounds like shit.

and i just saw this which is why i felt the need to chime in...

Well, aside from taking any chance to cry to the media in hopes of gaining more attention (and maybe album sales), they probably don't want people to download their album. But this one is not worth buying, and I'm upset i wasted time downloading it.

Haha. I would be pretty scared if I was captured and they played loud music and the only words in the songs I could understand was "Death" and "Kill."
