I recieved the following email today from TrueMajority, a group I usually support. Today I recieved an email with this proposed fax... and then began to wonder... am I subscribing to propaghanda? Just looking for some opinions Smiley

Here is the letter we'll add your name to and fax to your Senators:

Dear Senator:

I write as a constituent of yours to urge you to support a filibuster opposing the nomination of Miguel Estrada to the D.C. Court of Appeals. His views on civil liberties, the power of corporations, and other important matters are too extreme for our courts.

During his nomination hearing Mr. Estrada refused to answer even the most basic questions about his judicial philosophy thus preventing the Senate from fulfilling it's constitutional role to advise and consent. On these grounds alone you should oppose this nomination whether you agree with his apparent judicial philosophy or not.

Thank you for your consideration of this crucial matter.

Sincerely,
(We'll add your name and address here.)

I have no clue about what that is about but what is the group about? They just add your name to that automatically if you're a member...?

i dont think you are subscribing to propaganda cookie. estrada has been coached to not answer any questions. if he did, his (rumored) reactionary opinions would come up and even more opposition than there currently is to his nomination would come about. his nomination at such a young age is essentially being viewed as a fast track to the supreme court, which is already partial enough.

i get mailings like that from various interest groups all the time too, and i sometimes wonder what the purpose of them is. i'm sure that senators are really going to take to heart a canned message from an enemy interest group and change their opinion based on the onslaught of 100s of canned letters coming to them from people motivated enough to click "send". i often still send these things anyway, but i wonder how effective they really are Tongue.
