Did you already upgrade to Leopard?

I just would like to know, who of you already upgraded to Leopard? Did you have any troubles with some games of applications?

Is anyone running Adobe CS2 with Leopard? Officially it isn't supported however I would like to know if you can use it at all?

Im holding of 10.5 until Adobe officially supports after-effects - As i understand it the CS3 suite will run ok - there are bugs etc but it runs. The main problems seem to be with the video programmes - premier and after effects etc...

But its a bugger, i have my copy of leopard sat here and i just can't stick it on the comp til i know everything will work ok!!

Indeed that's a big issue. Btw do you need Premiere for your work, or why don't you use FCP?

Yeah, that's also an issue for myself when I gonna get my new one. Well at least you can install Tiger if needed and with later upgrades to Leopard and the apps the situation will improve as it did with Tiger.

I never have had issues with CS3 on Leopard that I would associate to OS related instability. I've found Time Machine to be an invaluable tool for piece of mind while carrying my laptop on me on campus. I mean, if I lost it, I would lose all my work and all my school notes; so, I feel better having a installable backup. If the thing died, or was dropped, or fell into some sort of acid filled river, it wouldn't be quite as disappointing with a backup.

The other new feature I use most is Spaces. I love it, and it makes it easy to hide the fact I'm on IM when the prof is pacing around. It's also great for keeping all the IMs in one place regardless and other work, even full-screen work environments, contained and out of the way.

Good to know. Nevertheless what a pity and annoyance that CS2 doesn't work, 'cos I have a student edition and would like to use it and not just trash it.

Leopard has a lot of useful features. Also XCode 3 and the new Objective-C additions are very attractive for me to start programming some true Mac apps.

I just fear some broken apps when I get my new Mac. Also this finally means the true dead of MacOS9, which I still used for some very old games(e.g. Sim Farm and 2 player Lone Runner sessions with my gf) and QuickTime VR Authoring Studio.

No i use Final Cut Pro (never used premier and don't to ever to be honest!!) the concern is with AfterEffects. We've done some testing on it and it does seem pretty stable, there are no major common  bugs that we've come up against.

... Not long before Adobe fix's these all being well though!

QuickTime VR Authoring Studio.

EXACTLY!!! I am keeping the G4 Tower still for that very reason - I just don't understand why the hell we don't have an uptodate QTVR Authoring system - im really not a fan of some of the alternatives (live-stage) (anyone know of any decent alternatives?) - and for little apps like SoundVR etc i need to boot up  9!

i have done the full switch to leopard, and i can say it is a love hate relationship, i personally use alot of bit torrents and there is a kernal panic that hits everytime when i have to many connections coming in and out. It also happens when im streaming content from the web, it has to do with the airport, so i would suggest waiting till 10.5.2 personally, i mean really whats the rush, besides a couple cool features but really it doesnt make things faster, and if everything is running fine for you in tiger just wait, no harm no foul.


(yes i have done a clean install, 2x now actually same thing, and both off different leopard disks from the office)

I had Logitech's "Hax" (APE-APplication Enhancer for my 7 Button Mouse). That prevented me from standard installation. I switched over to USBOverdrive.

@hooks: you are right: never break a running system. But if you get a new Mac you also get Leopard, so its good to know what problems can you expect.

Tiger also had lots of troubles until 10.4.2. So its just a question of time until most software will be updated and bugs removed.

My two cents...  I like Leopard, then again I went from 10.3.9 to it, so it has been great for me.  One of my only gripes is that my Harmon/Kardon iSub doesn't work with it.  H/K said Apple stopped supporting it with 10.4.  Other minor annoying bugs that I'm sure will get fixed in the next couple of updates.

I upgraded to Leopard from the very first day it was available in Denmark.

I got all my CS-stuff and serious photo-editing-DTP files stored on my old G4, and kept that machine running in the previous OSX. So I wouldnt know what Leopard does to all that.

However I got some other comments on Leopard:

First of all :
My experience has always been : Loading Mac OSX is way much faster than loading Windows on a PC.
With Leopard - due to all its new features i guess - loading Mac OSX has now become slooooow
(And my comp is supposed to be fairly OK ; Macpro with 4 x 3,0 ghz and 4 gb Ram).

Next:
_The feature they call "Time Machine" doesnt work, unless your external drive is formatted into Mac Leopard Format. If you format your external drive ( in my case, its a so-called "NAS" a one-terrabyte machine, that was supposed to be some kind of a media server for all my other macs), into MacOSX, you will miss a lot of the original features of a NAS.
So - I thought I should have a kind of an external hard-drive, that could back-up my macv with Time-machine, and also being used for storage of films, old software, and so on.
But thats not possible. Its a choice. So far this choice for me has been a decision NOT to run time-machine, and not to format the NAS into Mac-OSX.

Using Leopard has one big advantage though. When I use my Mac in Windows mode ( from boot-camp),
the drivers and stuff that are being loaded/downloaded/installed, are way much better than the Boot-camp stuff from the former OSX.
In other words: My Mac is running smoother than ever, when I am in PC-mode.

And one great advantage : Networking a Leopard Mac with Macs on older OSX is absolutely no prob. I was quite curious about that, but they seem to work beautifully together. Networking, sharing and all that = no prob.
