Since I have an ATi X800 XT I noticed that my G5 is much louder and warmer (as expected, main reason why I'm getting this now)... so I looked for a solution today, spontaneously, a mod for the fan or even a replacement. I remembered an article over at Macbidouille.com respectively Hardmac.com and found it (see above) - Zalman VF 70-Cu. Much quieter and much more effective -> better performance of the graphics card and overclockable to even 25%(!), with the help of ATicellerator, without overheating or any other problems. The above PCI-X port will be blocked, though, but I left it free for better ventilation of the X800 XT anyway. I also considered the ATI Silencer 5 but I read that it doesn't really fit into a PMG5 and that the overall performance of the Zalman is better also.

Looking forward to the installation... Wink I'm such a hardware- and performance junkie! lol

I finally got the parts yesterday and it worked out great. Deinstallation of the ATi fan was hassle-free and the installation of the Zalman was easy (of course you need a little flair). The difference is amazing... MUCH quieter and the temperature around the area decreased by about 8°C on an average. Also, I can overclock it up to 18% now (with ATIcellerator, processor and memory) without getting artefacts or it even freezing up completely. Great $30 (+ $1 for a Molex Y-Adapter) investment.
