Don't Drink and Drive

You know, the words "Don't drink and drive" never really had any weight to me, although I hardly ever did this, a lot of my friends did. It's a common thing everywhere for people to ignore the statement and it seems that usually nothing happens. Tonight however it has a new meaning for me as my best friend lays in the hosipital with internal bleeding. The saddest part is that he just got a loan for his new car which is now totaled, and he'll probably lose his job which he planned on staying with for the rest of his life. This probably is the best outcome for the situation too, he could have killed himself and more importantly he could have hurt others. No night of fun is worth that much, have fun, do what you want, but realize the consiquences of your actions. You may get lucky once, you may get lucky a few times, but eventually everyones luck runs out and there are few things in the world that are worth your well being.

Those who drink and drive deserve neither.

Drinking and driving is still just as stupid as it's ever been.
I'm a bit torn on the issue, because I think the government is punishing the somewhat guilty too much, instead of punishing the really guilty enough. But on the other hand, I don't know anyone my age that doesn't have someone that was killed or badly injured due to drinking and driving (even if it was someone else doing it).
Drinking and driving sucks, but Michigan just lowered the blood alcohol content yet again for what is considered "diving under the influence". Personally, I think they've gotten too carried away. Toughen the punishments for those in accidents because of drunk driving. Show everyone what happens when you do it. But it's almost become fascist about blood alcohol content, to a point where most people aren't really impaired at the levels they are talking. And don't get me started on checkpoints.
Sorry. Hope your friend is doing better Lose, and hope he learned this lesson now, when it only cost him what it has.
