Nice find on that article cow.

It fits in well with the article I read last week about Apple asking a few vendors (like ATI and Nvidia) to produce some OS X drivers for X86 architecture.  Most people were speculating that it was to port OS X over.

All that aside, I think apple is just lighting a fire under motorolla.  The G5 has been prototyping for a long time now and motorolla has been taking forever.  Besides, G4's and G5's are already 64bit chips and apple hasn't taken advantage of that with OS X yet either, so why would the AMD chip change that?

Personally, I hope it's the fire theory.  RISC chips are better at many things... we just need the manufacturers to get off their bums and start cranking them out.  The megahertz myth is true...  it's all about operations per second, and increasing the number of cycles in a second is only one way to make a computer faster.  It also has some downsides like heat and such.  Now, if AMD would develop a RISC chip.... that would really have me drooling.

The way you say that makes it sound like they already have one code-named "Sheep."
