Why dodge bullets when you can just suck 'em all in!??

« on: December 25, 2002, 05:08:08 pm »

For Christmas I got Ghost Recon and Desert Siege, but Ghost Recon doesn't work!  Shocked Everyone it starts to load and displays the Tom Clancy's GR screen, the CD starts to slow down, then says "This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down". Why??? I've tried unistalling it, then reinstalling it, but it doesn't work. I also have all the system requirements- please help, anybody!

Have you ever got it to work and did you install any mods?
I had similar problems with a mod installed.
Other things could be anti-virus progs, I turn mne off.
If you go into your Redstorm entertainment folder, then Ghost recon on your HDD,
Look for a file called 'IkeCrash' this will tel you what the problem is although its a bit hard to understand (this is how I knew the mod was causing the fault).
Hope this helps

I have not installed a mod, nor have I ever even gotten the game to work. Here's that file, and what it says:

Looks like a Direct X problem? Direct Draw?
Are you running the most uptodate?
Have you tried running the direct X diagnostic?

Maybe someone else can confirm it?

Well, I asked Ubi Soft, and they told me my video card was the problem. Here was their actual response:

According to your DXDIAG, there appears to be a problem with your video card configuration. First download the latest drivers from http://www.matrox.com for the G400 in your system. You must have DirectX 9.0 or higher to use these drivers properly.  If you do not have DirectX 9.0 or do not know which version you have, download and install the latest version of DirectX from http://www.Microsoft.com/directx

If, after following the steps above, your problem still is not solved, click your ?Start? button, then ?Run?.
Type: DXDiag
Click "Ok", Click ?Display?.
Make sure both DirectDraw and Direct3D acceleration are enabled.  If they are not, click the ?Enable? button.  If they will not enable, you need to contact your PC manufacturer to get these enabled.

I have Direct X 8.0, which is what GR needs, but, I'll try what he says...

Ahhh, think we should get rid of our computers and all buy consoles Wink
I had problems with R6 and vid cards, I upgraded to the detonator drivers fro my old Diamond Viper and any texture which had some sort of transparency or movement turned out like static on a TV, took me ages to work out what Id done. Fortunately Redstorm have thought about it and added that text files which tells you what the problem is.

Have fun
