What good is life if you don't have freedom?

I'm getting sick of all the fighting in the middle east. Let see if we can't come up with a way to settle the Israel/Palestine conflict once and for all.  Smiley

Personally, I agree with Tom Clancy on this one. In his book, the Sum of All Fears, he outlines an idea for middle east peace. Basically, he theorises that if the palestinians stopped the suicide bombings, stopped violently protesting Israeli occupation, and adopted American Civil Rights Movement style peaceful protesting. In the book, the peaceful protesting was met by standard violent reprisals by Israeli security forces. This eroded support for Israel in the world opinion.

At the same time, a plan was submitted that would allow for a joint occupation of Jerusalem by all sides. The city would be protected by Swiss troops and ruled by a coalition of Christian, Islamic, and Jewish religious leaders.

I think that the overall idea of this plan is good. Is it likely that the palestinians will put down their guns an bombs and peacefully protest? No. Would things be much better for them if they did? Yes.

What do you guys think? Is this a good plan? Why or why not?

the only way to really solve it is to rid our earth of all religous principles  and attachment to useless places and items.

I think it's a great plan, but it's just too Utopian. All 3 of those religions are intolerant of other religions and see themselves as the chosen people, why would they cooperate? Yeah, plus that whole Palestine putting their guns down thing. Palestine will fight to the death over some desert Holy Land, and Israel isn't going to give in.  Sharon is one tough nut to crack, and it's going to lead to even more problems. I think that theoretically if  Palestine weren't a bunch of religious militants willing to kill themselves for the Holy Land and that if Israel wasn't such a big bastard country we could work something out (duh!) but it's never going to change. Palestine wants too much; Israel is too greedy to share. The only visible solution I can think of is if the world acted upon this and put pressure on both sides to cease fire; US hegemony alone won't solve the conflict. The UN needs to do something constructive for once :-P

ps- this is all bs, it's like 7am :-D

I think the ultimate Middle East Peace plan is to let them have a huge war and see who wins.

But I do agree with Capt.  I personally think religious denomnations are silly, you can believe what you wish but it doesn't matter unless you are a decent person...and decent people don't hate others because of their religion.
