Title: I Want Answers! Post by: :MoD:Shade on February 16, 2006, 02:24:36 am I've been told that Resolution in game has no effect on FPS, but then I looked at Doom 3 results and I saw they went down as resolution went up so I got curious.
I dug up this graph on barfeats: (http://barefeats.com/image06/halo_800.gif) Along with this one: (http://barefeats.com/image06/doom_800.gif) And you can see the patter - resolution goes up - FPS goes down. SO, I'm a wondering and questioning a higher authority on this subject. I just tried it in RvS but got no substancial evidence, it wasn't a very professional test - FPS actually went down it seemed. UPDATE - - - Does the fact that I have an LCD have anything to do with it? Does resolution effect FPS on CRT's and not LCD's? Title: Re: I Want Answers! Post by: Civrock on February 16, 2006, 03:43:46 am The higher the resolution, the higher the stress for the graphics card. In the two images you can see that the better graphics card can logically handle it much better, but it still goes down, which is logical as well.
Having an LCD or a CRT does matter because LCDs have native resolutions (with optimal performance and picture) and CRTs can be pretty much set to any resolution they support (and that's a lot), although the more Hz, the better the performance and FPS (this also depends on the graphics card of course). Basically, resolution doesn't really matter for LCDs unless you have a really big one (23"+). Accordingly, you'd need a better graphics card to keep up. Bottom line: You get better performance with CRTs in case of speed (more Hz, supports lower resolutions) but with LCDs you get better performance graphics-wise (better contrast, colours, etc... but also a set Hz value and only one native resolution). Got a 20" iMac so I don't think Resolution matters much in games like RvS, GhR and others.
