Title: America's Army in 3D Post by: Civrock on December 28, 2005, 09:57:39 pm I'm a hobby photographer and I've just learned this new technique on how to take photos in 3D. It's called stereographic photography. It's the same technique used by those viewmasters you use to have as a kid. So yeah, I got the idea that you could use this technique in a 3D game by taking a screenshot, moving over a step and taking another. You put the two images in photoshop and put them next to each other like the ones below (right view on the left and left view on the right). The first time I saw these, it blew my mind. Here's another link that explains more about the technique:
http://www.kottke.org/03/01/fun-with-stereographic-photography To view: Look in the middle of the picture, between the two images. Now cross your eyes (like you do when you look at the end of your nose) until you see three images. Concentrate on that middle image and bring it into focus. You might need to move your head forward, or backwards slightly to bring it into focus. Now, hopefully, you can see it. About 10% of the people can't do this because of genetical reasons apparently... well, then you're out of luck. :P http://www.civic-mac.de/stuff/aaoextraction1.jpg http://www.civic-mac.de/stuff/aaoextraction2.jpg http://www.civic-mac.de/stuff/aaoextraction3.jpg http://www.civic-mac.de/stuff/aaoextraction4.jpg http://www.civic-mac.de/stuff/aaoextraction5.jpg http://www.civic-mac.de/stuff/3durbanassault.jpg Title: Re: America's Army in 3D Post by: :MoD:Shade on December 28, 2005, 10:24:14 pm I'm part of that 10% because I couldn't do thoes 3D calendars when I was little either.

Didn't really think about it, neither did I care. :P Edit: Found another one where it works very well: http://www.plants3d.org/photo/plants/togakusi0204/togakusi05c-e.html Title: Re: America's Army in 3D Post by: Ethion on December 28, 2005, 11:00:44 pm :)

Would give GhR a new lease of life for me while i wait for either a G5 or a half decent game to arrive on the mac (not that i hold my hopes up for GhR3 being half decent anymore... just looks like a freaking urban shooter like every other :( )
Title: Re: America's Army in 3D Post by: Civrock on December 29, 2005, 03:37:12 pm I heard that it sucks because the reticule just floats around in the 'air' and you can't hit for shit... also, you can get a headache really quick. And besides... it's not Mac-compatible anyways. :P

Title: Re: America's Army in 3D Post by: beefyfigure on December 30, 2005, 01:27:20 am Yep, I'm genetically inferior to all of you. Feel free to mock me. Although I have tried it many times over, I don't want to permanently destroy my eyesight, you know? Already my eyes are fidgeting, plus I'm dizzy. Any minute now, I'll start foaming at the mouth. Hours later, I'll be in a wheelchair. Then, I'll spend the rest of my miserable life chanting Christmas carols to other, less fortunate mouth-frothing and debilitated wheelchair patients, who, aside from listening to my somniferous voice, spend their days arguing about who really shot J.R., playing bingo, popping pills, and generally farting in the presence of ill-humored nurses. Title: Re: America's Army in 3D Post by: beefyfigure on December 30, 2005, 08:44:22 pm Well, someone has to be, right? Oh, live a little, won't you. Come on—don't be afraid. There's nothing to be ashamed of. You can do it. ;) |
