Title: 1956 review of The Lord of the Rings.... "ooooh!" Post by: BFG on December 13, 2005, 12:21:30 pm http://www.jrrvf.com/sda/critiques/The_Nation.html
Now i wonder, firstly if he would have any idea just how popular the book would become - but also i would have loved to see the look on his face if you sat him down to watch the recent trilogy on film :) Title: Re: 1956 review of The Lord of the Rings.... "ooooh!" Post by: BTs_GhostSniper on December 13, 2005, 03:51:41 pm I loved the books, but I refuse to go see the movies. The director made me sick with his anti-American views at one of the Academy Awards ceremonies so I will never watch or buy any of his movies.

Its a damn good job you didn't listen to Nobel Prize Winner Harold Pinter's recent speech regarding America... forget being sick i think you'd have lost the plot. Pity that guys like him get bypassed by the people that should really be listening and discussing what he has to say. Pity also its left to people like him to say the things that Politicians should be standing up for. Anyway.... Nope if your going to refuse to watch a film because its Director questions some American views thats fine. Personally i think you have got to be kidding me, i mean do you not therefore use consume, watch or in any way physically digest or consume any product be it physical or cognitive that has been in some way produced by an individual who questions certain actions and beliefs that America as a whole seems to stand for? Great films, very enjoyable. great suff. Title: Re: 1956 review of The Lord of the Rings.... "ooooh!" Nope, just the ones I happen to catch in the act. ;) I could care less if someone doesn't like something about America. Really doesn't bother me. But don't stand up on AMERICAN television and bore me with it. I really don't want to hear it when I'm trying to have a peaceful little entertainment session once a year when I watch the Academy Awards. Like I said, though...great books, so who needs the movies anyway? Title: Re: 1956 review of The Lord of the Rings.... "ooooh!" Post by: BFG on December 13, 2005, 10:35:43 pm lol allrighty then i won't say anything else on the matter ;)
Actually, apart from the ending of the last book which he seems to have tried out 4 different endings and just used each one after another heh (really pissed me off) there are a lot of improvements from the book (and some cock ups yes) but IMHO Jackson does rather well in cutting out a lot of Tolkens rambling and overladen descriptions which i never found succinct enough... not to mention all those bloody songs!!! ;) And visually... well it does look bloody freaking fantastic :D Title: Re: 1956 review of The Lord of the Rings.... "ooooh!" Post by: Brutha on December 14, 2005, 08:23:53 am Seen king Kong yet, GS? ;)
I'm not surprised about the reviews. Alltough it's a popular book, it's not mentioned once as one of the classics in British Literature. If it ever will, it is most certainly because of it's popularity. Title: Re: 1956 review of The Lord of the Rings.... "ooooh!" The 2006 Ford F-150 SuperCrew that I am driving right now has the 300HP 5.4L V-8 mated to the 4R75E 4-Speed Automatic Transmission. By the way, the 4R75E is made in Sharonville, OH, USA. Pwn right back at ya. ;) Title: Re: 1956 review of The Lord of the Rings.... "ooooh!" Post by: bronto on December 14, 2005, 07:26:39 pm i'll catch you one of these days
