However, the regular and highly-active members of [:] are now experiementing with heavy drugs.... I mean... America's Army. I've set us up with a leased server and we've been playing on it a little here and there as I try to get it set up and running smoothly.
I'd like to invite anyone who's interested in playing to join us for some gaming. I ran a public honor server that I payed for personally. It cost me something like $180 a month. I think that was for a 20-man server. I will only play when I'm gaining honor, which is why I usually don't play when the PC version and the mac version don't match up...like what happened for most of this year. During those times I take a nice long break from the game. If enough people are interested -- and willing to cough up the $5.00 a month it would cost per slot -- I will switch it over to an honor server -- which I would prefer too as I don't like playing on non-honor servers. Right now, as a non-honor server, it's $2.00.
And just to be clear, the money doesn't go to me... it goes directly to the server host. I never see it. I wish I could afford to simply pay for it and let everyone play on it for free, but that's just not in my budget. I already pay for my team's site out of my pocket. If anyone has decent success hosting from their Mac, please tell us about it. I leased this server because I heard it was all but impossible to host an Internet game unless you had a high-end machine (which I do) AND a phat connection (which I don't). On our server I get a ping here in NYC of anywhere from 8 to 50. Weak gets about double that in LA (the server's in New Jersey). All very playable pings. No lag what so ever. I dont use SCX or any of the other apps that "help" you host. I found some issues with them, especially on setting up a server to rotate the maps. With a few edits to your ArmyOps.ini, installing PB and setting up your pbsvgame.cfg and registering your server IP at www.americasarmy.com under your settings.. it's up pretty fast. I run it in my terminal.
