Title: Powerbook Motion Sensor Tricks... Post by: :MoD:Shade on August 28, 2005, 02:23:19 am I found this (http://www.wired.com/news/mac/0,2125,66936,00.html) article fascinating. In it it outlines these new "hacks" that have been developed that utilizes the iBook and Powerbooks motion sensor. Say for example you tilt your computer to the right - this corresponds to changing a track in iTunes. A game was even developed based on this tilting concept. :D

Title: Re: Powerbook Motion Sensor Tricks... Post by: Civrock on August 28, 2005, 06:09:56 am But the motion sensor only reacts when there is enough movement, not by a simple lift... and these "hacks" can only work with the sensor actually reacting.

Quote But the motion sensor does more than just notice sudden movement: It can be used to determine the angle the PowerBook is tilted at in any direction, along with the velocity at which the computer is being moved. Quote Enterprising hackers have discovered that because the new motion sensor returns reasonably accurate measurements to Mac OS X, it can be used to do some cool tricks, from realigning an image in a window so it always points up, no matter what angle you hold the laptop at, to controlling what's playing in iTunes -- rock the machine backward to go to the next track, forward to play the previous one. |
