Title: Saving iTunes settings...
Post by: BTs_GhostSniper on August 20, 2005, 07:41:41 pm
Hey guys,

I've been saving files off my old G5 to get ready to buy my new G5 and I was wondering what all files I have to copy to save my iTunes just the way I have it now.  The actual 250GB worth of music is in my external Hard Drive which I will be keeping...I just need to know what files in OSX on my main Hard Drive I need to save to keep all the settings, libraries, etc., the same.

Get your new G5 and use the "Migration Assistant" to clone your system over to it. That's the easiest way without losing any settings, because it'll be cloned.

The other way is to copy all folders from your system HD, especially the both Library foders. That's where all your settings are saved. Then you simply copy them over to the new system. But as I said, the bets way would be to simply get your new G5 first and then use the Migration Assistant.

I won't have both systems at the same time, unfortunately.  There will probably be a week delay where I don't have a mac at all, because the one I'm getting from Apple is a custom configuration.  I don't really care about any other settings on the computer...I can customize those with no problem.  I just want to know which iTunes files I need to save to keep everything the same there.

Just back-up the user iTunes folder then, ~/Music/iTunes. Simply copy this folder back into the new system (to the same location) and overwrite the existing one there with it. Then everything will be the same as before in your iTunes.
