Title: Apple 17" Studio Display for sale...
Post by: BTs_GhostSniper on July 24, 2005, 10:45:32 pm
Selling off my 17" Apple Studio Display (I bought the new Apple 20" Cinema display).  Started the bidding off low at $199 with no reserve.  There are no lies here about how "rare" it is, but it is in perfect cosmetic condition with no dead pixels. ;)

Would you sell it for less to a poor college student?

Hey, if Civic can get $500 for a crappy old iBook, I should get top dollar for my nice 17" Studio Display!

so, yeah... i sold the mentioned iBook SE on eBay for 525 bucks. ;D and since you were so strict about it not having any collector's value or it being rare... here's an email i just got from the buyer:

- - - - -

"I was wondering if you have shipped the ibook yet. I am extremely exited! This is my dream computer! I was also wondering about its battery life. I assumed it had good battery life since the description said "excellent condition" and "works great"

Also I was wondering if you were going to ship ibook in the original box. I was wondering if you could wrap like brown packing paper around the box, so it stays in good shape and doesnt get adress stickers all over it. (I want to keep everything in great shape)

I was sondering about doing upgrades on this ibook like adding a slot loading cdrw/dvd from a powerbook and a 40gb fujitsu 2.5" hdd. Do you know if those might be compatible? (I know its irelevant to the sale, but I was wondering if you knew the answer) :)

Thanks a lot!

I CANT WAIT TO GET MY LIME IBOOK!!!!!

Ps. Please tell me the tracking number as soon as you recieve it!

Thanks again!"

hahaha, what a geek! or just a real Apple fanatic. ::lol:: so you see, it IS rare and HAS some collector's value cause of that already. :)

$525 bucks! ::applause::

It is not a collector's item...but hey, if Civic's Lime iBook is, then I guess I can call this display a collector's item too.  ;)

Only if I relist it that way, Myst.

For the record it's not even rare. Apple often lists this display in the special deals section.

I NEVER SAID IT WAS RARE!!!  I said "there are no lies here about how rare it is"!  This was a comeback to Civic saying his iBook was a rare collector's item.  Stop trying to start something, Myst.

I've only had it listed for 2 days.  You normally only have watchers for the first 1 to 5 days of the auction.  Then people generally start bidding a day or two before the close of the auction.  Hell, I've bought and sold several thousand things on eBay (in fact, I'm a charter member).  This particular account I'm selling the display under is a few years old itself.  I think I know a little bit about how eBay works.

Way to double post noob. Wow, a $3 increase. I'm so glad you were right, you should have just sold it for $199.

$20?

Nah, I've seen them go for around $250.  I would have been happy with $200 though, so it really doesn't matter now.  Not like I need the money.  ;)

then donate it to a starving African child and they can eat the LCD for about a year. I've always wondered what liquid crystal tastes like.

Well, since EVERYTHING tastes like chicken...I would suspect LCD tastes a bit like metallic chicken.  ;)

Myst, when you get your own job and you stop having your parents buy everything for you, you might learn to appreciate the value of a dollar.

Edit:

Btw, GS, what is shipping/handling and insurance ACTUALLY costing you?

It's quite funny, actually...about $30, just what I'm charging the customer.  People on eBay make a bad habit out of inflating shipping charges, which is how a lot of them make extra money.

A. I think that is immoral, unethical, and just plain wrong.

B. I'm shipping in the original sturdy Apple box that it came in, so I'm not even paying for a box.

C. Even if I am a little off in my shipping estimate, I always shoot to be LOWER than the actual cost.

D. People who overcharge for shipping on eBay should be given the "tar and feather" treatment that our friends in Great Britain are so familiar with.
