Post by: BTs_GhostSniper on July 19, 2005, 06:16:43 pm
Gen Westmoreland, commander of U.S. Forces in Vietnam and former U.S. Army Chief of Staff, died yesterday, July 18, 2005.  He was 91.

Here is the tribute I made for him that I updated today:

What do all the bars signify?  Time in action?

What do all the bars signify?  Time in action?

I'll take you from the top left to the bottom right (that is in order from Highest decoration to lowest):

1. Army Distinguished Service Medal (Highest Non-combat medal in the Army)
2. Legion of Merit (For Exceptional Command during a war)
3. Bronze Star (Heroism decoration in combat)
4. Purple Heart (Wounds received in combat)
5. Meritorious Service Medal
6. Air Medal
7. Army Commendation Medal
8. American Defense Service Medal-World War II
9. American Service Medal-World War II
10. European-African-Mediterranean Service Medal-World War II
11. World War II Victory Medal
12. Army of Occupation Medal
13. National Defense Service Medal
14. Korean Service Medal
15. Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal-Vietnam
16. Vietnam Service Medal
17. Army Service Ribbon
18. Overseas Service Ribbon
19. United Nations Service Medal-Korea
20. Vietnam Campaign Medal

General Westmoreland has more than just these medals...some of the medals were awarded to him more than once, but I don't currently have the ability to put the devices on the ribbons to show more than one award.  I'm currently working on getting a website up to do my military tributes on.  Anybody want to donate their time in helping me make it?

I get sick when I think about the 55,000+ young men and 3 million Vietnamese men, women and children who died in Vietnam and then Westmoreland, who should have a picture in the dictionary next to 'war criminal' lives to 91...in any case I hope the ghosts of Vietnam forever haunt his final place of rest.

Spets, you're creepy with how much you know that's anti-US military shit. It's kinda sexy in a way though. :D
