Title: Help finding Tablet (writing thing) for laptops Post by: BTs_Mysterio on May 30, 2005, 03:06:35 am Anyone use one of the pen/touchpad tablet things? Any recommendations. I could just see this being useful for writing in the future.

I don't like the sound of it or the effort needed to either make sure you aren't making slight mistakes on the screen or even the keyboard. Writing is more natural and can be customized to the user.
Title: Re: Help finding Tablet (writing thing) for laptops Post by: BFG on May 31, 2005, 11:58:23 am there are two dots on the keyboard - on the f and the j which mean you can tell that your fingers are in the right place... plus you don't need to be looking at your hands so any mistakes you make you see on the screen straight away. Plus you can write essays etc about a billion zillion times faster... Dunno if you have much experience of using tablets but from using mine - trying to write essays etc is not what a tablet is best used for.

My home-row keys are WSAD & IKJL. Hmmmmm...I wonder where those came from. ;D (I was corrupted at a young age, what can I say).
I've got to agree with BFG tho, typing > writing by hand. Much faster, easier to correct mistakes and perform general surgery on your word documents. Plus it's extremely hard to make a spellchecker to correctly read and correct handwritten letters. They can do it, yes, but you have to have very neat handwriting all the time for it to function properly. Let's all go and try inkwell in Tiger with a cheap little tablet and see how it does.

Euw hehe, I'm left handed so i never got the hang of wasd - my pc mate used to yell at me because i always use the keypad for gaming!! freaky boy i know! :) I learnt on a proper type writer where you had to really put your back into it, but it at least means that the bottleneck is my brain keeping up with my fingers and not the other way round, i don't think about the typing anymore, my fingers just get on with it its really actually a bit spooky when i think about it!
I've tried it myst.. i have a little wacom tablet right here on my desk... Inkwell is funky and a great ideas ect. its fun but i'll be dammed if I'm ever going to write more than a word or two using the tablet - jut hand me the keyboard ... this post took 62 seconds to write, with three errors! ;) |
