Title: Are Macintoshes Targets to new Virus/Hacker Attacks?
Post by: Blitz on March 22, 2005, 05:29:39 am
I was doing my daily reading on Slashdot.org and some news was scary... Since more Macs are being purchased, hackers are producing more viruses and finding ways to get into Mac OS X.

I doubt it, even if that would happend then Apple would plug the holes pretty fast.
They usaully do. Otherwise there is probably some mac guy that finds a way, and then tells the world.

A simple Norton app will prevent any problems while apple continues to patch the holes.

I think Rebel proves why GR will forever ban PC users hacking into it.

I consider the XBOX a form of PC.

Im sorry myst...xbox is a "console" having no relation to a PC other then the operating systems that run on PC's are the made by the same people that make the Xbox. What amazes me is that the xbox only costs 200 and is 10x better at gaming then the mac so in other words the xbox was the better investment.

Actually Doom on the xbox is lower quality than what my old G5 produces. The OS of xbox is based off of base windows. The chip is a x86 intel chip. That makes it a PC. If you consider 200 a investment, then you are a poor fool... in many forms of poor. Unless you hack the console all it can do is record music with those stupid kiddie apps or play games.

Well ok ur g5 costed u....3 grand at least with monitor and all. My xbox costed me 200 bucks and produces graphics better then my mac (dual g4) which costed alot also...so i still win woot!

You don't buy a computer for games unless its some "pimped" cheapo PC. I fail to see why you continue to compare them. Your grounds for argument are also false. The Xbox does not produce better graphics, it simply has games optimized for that one system with those specs only. If someone did that for your G4, you'd completely decimate the Xbox.

The reason i love the xbox so much is that no 1 has a better xbox...all xboxs are created equal and cannot be "pimped". And if u buy a mod chip it cannot be used on xbox live. So basically skill is the only factor, not who has the better graphics card or the nicer processor, just who is flat out better at the game. That is why i consider the console to be the elite when it comes to gaming for less.

Actually the xbox can be hacked when you use live, it just takes more effort.

I guess thats why i see mod chip for use with xbox live all the time on the web

Back on topic:

Use Intego software (http://www.intego.com/home.asp) to protect it from any outside attacks.
I like it better then Norton.

Umm...mod chips cannot be used on live. Live has been made so that if a mod chip is in place if the switch is in the ON position they cannot be used. If anyone has told u otherwise they are lieing. If u feel like checkin my info go ahead and ask bungie or even xbox.

My xbox doesn't answer questions rebel. You can also believe MS when it says it has the most secure OS, the most advanced browser, or original features. There's no way they can detect but a Hardware check. That requires some simple OS changes and disguises. In theory it is easy, few do it, but it is done.

That comment was made as a Mac vs PC comment, not Mac vs Mac.  Idiots.
