Title: Dated Clan Battles
Post by: .vooDoo. on February 20, 2005, 06:23:54 pm
I got to tell you, I have played countless CB's on the TWL ladder lately and the way they have it set up is hassle free. I dont see why the DBL cant be the same way. Completely automated. Scheduling a cb, setting up a server on GR with a password that is pre-set and all meet IN the server by a certain time. A 15 minute grace period and bam!! your done. Its that simple. The only tough part is the scripting.

... which requires time... which neither Mauti or Elan have.  and the other problem being most people here don't seem to want this kind of system.

The scripting wouldn't be that tough, more the hassle and dealing with issues when the clans don't appear. What happens if both don't appear, only one, when do you agree on the number of players. May you can enlighten it a bit more how it works. Do you get challenged and then you have to play, or is it the same as you would here organise a sheduled cb here in the forum!??

At all a few clans like to shedule cbs, like Core, but it seems many other clans don't want as BFG just posted. Even if everyone is online they often don't play. However may some of my questions get answered when you explain how it works detailed on the TWL.

Bye,

Mauti

well, we (the DBL) would have to set certain times, e.g. "every monday 2000-2200", where every clan has to have time to CB, and then set up a challenging system, where you can select the clan you want to play an challenge them. Otherwise, a big discussion about the date of the CB would ensure that no agreement and no CB happens.

maybe the TWL guys got a better idea... would be good to know :)

Ok, the quick version:

Basically you can "attack" only clans that have a "open" descriptioins on the ladder. If they have a schedualed cb you cannot "attack" them. Once you choose the clan you want to "attack" you can choose any day of the week, and time, usually later in the evening. I think you give 2 choices and the other team can respond. There is a 24 hour grace period, if the responding clan doesnt respond the script sends a flag to an admin and he has to conclude if a forfiet is due. Now, once the day and time is agreed upon the script generate a "comms" area where only the "attackers" and "defenders" can message each other. In that area is where passwords are exchanged and server IP's etc.... The hosting clan changes there server to the TWL server config. and sets the password and give the oposing clan 15 minutes to show. Also, a moderator can be called to observe the match which we do alot. Once the match is over the losing team has 1 hour to confirm the lose and pretty much thats it.

Flies, you can google search TWL and look in the rules. It  gives everything there.

Well, if both dont appear the match is re-schedualed. This is pretty much what the "comms" area is for, to ask the other team to re-schedual if needed, etc....You dont agree on the number of players. There are specific ladders: ie: 2 vs 2 combat, 2vs2 objective, 4vs4 combat, 4vs4 objecite, etc...So that wouldnt be a problem. You could have, say, 2 AA ladders, 2vs2 objective and 4vs4 objecitve, the combat ladders are pretty lame if u ask me.

Had another smooth match last night. Ive played in 15 matches now with no problems except for a few rule discrepencies. But in that situation, you call for the next round to be a dead round, someone tabs out and reviews the rules and everything is resolved. You go into a setup round everyone suicides and the n ext round is live.

I've played about 20 CBs on the TWL over the past few years. Some at AA, some at RTCW.

Despite being a league involving generally more serious players, nearly half of the CBs ended up being forfeit wins simply because the opponents didn't show up.

There are very few clans out there with the organization and the interest to show up for scheduled CBs on a regular basis.

Typhy, please indulge me and tell me with who and what clan and what game(s) you played these 20 clan battles with(I can look it up). I can say that you maybe played in 1-3 cb's with Americas Apples but I cannot even confirm that because we were kicked from TWL for not being able to run the anti cheat software called CDC. Again I will say, Ive played in countless cb's on TWL now and we have yet to see a "No Show".
