The name should have something to do with the plot line so if it does, it is a good name

see spam drop box for stupid posts like these. Enough spam for one night eh? R6:4 will be a updated version of R6:3. Like R6 ---> RS.

Isnt that what AS is?  Or by updated do you mean completely new game?

Title: Re: Rainbow Six 4: Lockdown (name)
Post by: BTs_Mysterio on January 27, 2005, 05:44:31 am
As adds maps and game types. R6:4 would offer real changes to gameplay/physics.

Thanks Elan can't believe i missed this heh. Must have been writing essays at the time ;)

Ok so Glenda mentions it... And there it is obviously a top issue but i don't exactly get an overwhelming swell of optimism from reading that... Trying to patch the Havok engine with a different engine sounds like a bloody nightmare and i wonder whether they are even allowed to do that? ... If like she said if only the licensers would get it into their heads that they could be making lots and lots more money if they would just 'nudge nudge' 'wink wink' these middle men into action ;)

a really strange thing is, that Medal of Honor:PA (http://www.havok.com/clients/ea_la.php) uses the havok physics engine, but Ryan Gordon (http://icculus.org/cgi-bin/finger/finger.pl?user=icculus) is apparently working on MoH:PA, according to his "blog", and I don't think that he would port it only to the linux platform AND that havok supports linux, but not the mac platform.

Not since the update, but I used to play it all the time. I was in Es:. (Element Six) while it lasted.

Just took a look Elan.. This is mighty weird but my gut says that he's doing it for Linux and linux only...

Thing is how bloody difficult is it to port a bloody Linux app to OS X? Im not the person to ask but it can't be the bloody hard is it?

Title: Re: Rainbow Six 4: Lockdown (name)
Post by: DarK. on January 27, 2005, 02:52:00 pm
what exactly is the hacok engine?

Title: Re: Rainbow Six 4: Lockdown (name)
Post by: BTs_Mysterio on January 27, 2005, 05:49:54 pm
Havok will be ported. It is inevitable.... maybe all they need is more angry emails?

Title: Re: Rainbow Six 4: Lockdown (name)
Post by: BFG on January 27, 2005, 06:33:34 pm
It is inevitable?? How so? At the moment everything leans away to it suggesting that it is far from inevitable - to the extent that aspyr is trying to work out if they can utilize a different physics engine.

Dark: Havok is a Physics engine see website http://www.havok.com/index.php

'Cross platform' as long as it isn't across Mac... meh.

looks cool, what games other than The ones shown is it going to be implemented onto.

Title: Re: Rainbow Six 4: Lockdown (name)
Post by: BFG on January 27, 2005, 08:46:28 pm
Other than Halflife2, GhostRecon2, RvS4,  UT2005? and a whole lot others? Nope

Title: Re: Rainbow Six 4: Lockdown (name)
Post by: DarK. on January 27, 2005, 08:48:18 pm
so does this make any sort of things like, A grenade explodes and it causes a crater?  Or a rocket hits a wall and some rocks fall off of the wall.  What about that kind of stuff, that would be so cool if the physics of a game were that real.

Title: Re: Rainbow Six 4: Lockdown (name)
Post by: BTs_Mysterio on January 27, 2005, 09:24:04 pm
That is not physics. That is a Geo-mod, one was used in red faction. If they can mirror havok using a patch all should go well, but they'd need someone high up in programming to make it work. Perhaps it would even provide better performance than the average port.

Title: Re: Rainbow Six 4: Lockdown (name)
Post by: DarK. on January 27, 2005, 09:25:46 pm
ok then Im confused at what havok will do

Title: Re: Rainbow Six 4: Lockdown (name)
Post by: BTs_Mysterio on January 27, 2005, 09:29:34 pm
Physics engines simply make characters fall when shot... look realistic without being pre-rendered. They allow all things related to physics (see your text book) to work in real time in a game without rendering.

Title: Re: Rainbow Six 4: Lockdown (name)
Post by: DarK. on January 27, 2005, 09:32:08 pm
so In essence you get shot in the head running youll do a back flip while your head explodes.  And your leg gets shot and you fall and can hardly walk ect ect

Title: Re: Rainbow Six 4: Lockdown (name)
Post by: BTs_Mysterio on January 27, 2005, 09:34:15 pm
First example yes.

Second, that is not physics.

Third, not physics again

Fourth, falling off things yes, hardly walk stuff no.

Well, I'm somewhat disappointed that they didn't do another Rainbow Six 4: R______ S______

Yah know? Rainbow Six, Rogue Spear, Raven Shield... Lockdown...

It doesn't fit.

Other than Halflife2, GhostRecon2, RvS4,  UT2005? and a whole lot others? Nope

You forget Counter Strike: Source. It runs very nicely on the Havok Engine.

voo

p.s. To stay on topic...I havnt heard any chatter about R6 4 on the PC side. Either way, the one thing that makes the R6 series suck now is the platform incompatibility issue. Its bull shit if you ask me. And its probably only a Punk Buster issue. MEH!!

When you purchase Halflife2 it comes with the package. Being the most popular FPS games ever I doubt it will die anytime soon.

Is it not just a mod that made things look real with speedy gameplay?

Title: Re: Rainbow Six 4: Lockdown (name)
Post by: BFG on January 27, 2005, 11:45:21 pm
Nope. Started as a mod, now a fully fledged beast.

Dark... Go and read a physics book - or at least read the link to the website i gave you!
R S.... Rapid Storm.... Rapid Strike ... Erm.. Runny Squirrels ...

Correct me if im wrong but CS ran on the Unreal Engine. They just ported the game to run on the Havok engine and just looks.... well, very much looks more realistic. Always fun game.

no voods, CS ran as a mod of Half-Life (1), which used a modified Q1 or Q2 engine, I don't remember exactly. But there were some mod for Q3 and UT which copied CS's gameplay, like Urban Terror, and TacOps.

Title: Re: Rainbow Six 4: Lockdown (name)
Post by: BFG on January 28, 2005, 02:26:14 am
Yeah just downloading Urban Terror now actually (see other thread) Its the Action halflive/CS style of gameplay running on the QIII engine.. Extremely funny to play if your not going to get anal about graphics etc - the mod boys did a great job.

ps. good games earlier brutha ;) Just wish some more of you nuggets would come play some QIII
