Title: Absurd BF1942 Demo Lag
Post by: Supernatural Pie on January 26, 2005, 11:59:45 pm
Why is it that Battlefield 1942 Servers appear to be totally incapable of handling more than just a few players? I've seen far two many servers with pings that CAN be in the 15-40 range, but are more often anywhere between 500-1000, or simply "down".

So, what's going on with this absurd lag? Is it the game's fault, or are they all just crappy hosts?

that just goes to show you should all be on G3 iBooks and not have to worry about BF1942 lag, you always lag and you cant even play it !  What fun!  (Im being sarcastic and saying quit yet bitching)

Ok, so I decided to host tonight. I managed to fill a 16 person game, and all reports after the game were that the lag was fine.

So... I guess that means it's just certain shitty hosts that suck?

You know what's funny? Beating typhy's speed on his own ISP speed test by 2.5 mbits (down) (I test 4.7 here)

Brutha has you beat with his 8mb connection

Title: Re: Absurd BF1942 Demo Lag

but is his only $34 dollars per month?

No, I don't. it's about 100 dollars..then there is all this difference in wages and so forth...

I still would favor bruthas (actually would favor aramarths) for a 64 person game.  Although my G3 can hardly handle 16 peoplei n a game without dropping to 3 fps

Post by: BTs_Mysterio on January 27, 2005, 05:47:14 pm
G3s have no place in BF1942! the best number is 36 players.

Post by: Brutha on January 27, 2005, 07:49:54 pm
Yeah, 36 is a good number. 64 is too many players.

Your right seeing an the min processor is G4 (although my computer IS fast enough mhz wise)

I'd favor Ace over everyone.

You know what sucks, Brutha? You pay lest ( aroud 100 ) per month for 8MBs than I pay for 2.4MBs. $169/Month for 2400/256 with a 30GB transfer limit.

well I top you all, I am guaranteed (ha yeah right) at least 126k and I pay the same as myst!  Im getting Gyped off BIG ASS TIME!

I might host a 36 player game a little later on... I'll probably work my way up from about 24.

Title: Re: Absurd BF1942 Demo Lag
Post by: DarK. on January 27, 2005, 09:23:42 pm
36 people would not even be fun

I play on 64 player PC hosts. It's mad fun. There are ships battling and sink as airplanes fight bombing all over. It's amazing the level of insanity. I like the 16 player games, but think it has to be slightly higher.

Wow that game is immense, its too bad I cant play it

Mac Minis are really cheap. The thing people overlook when thinking about mac minis future use is that they don't have one! You simply buy a new one when you need to update it!

Title: Re: Absurd BF1942 Demo Lag

but still how would you get new games on it

You need some help with this one don't you:

$599 for 1.42 Ghz
$499 for 1.25 Ghz

no you said something about a 1 inch x 1inch x 1 inch mac mini earlier. thats what I am implying

Title: Re: Absurd BF1942 Demo Lag
Post by: BTs_Mysterio on January 27, 2005, 09:47:48 pm
The mac mini is a computer. The one inch thing was a joke about the 25th anniversary which wouldn't be too inconceivable for that time period.

Post by: DarK. on January 27, 2005, 09:50:19 pm
I understand that, I was wondering how the one inch thing would have games installed on it via discs

This thread is about BF1942, I was trying to suggest you upgrade to a mac mini so you could play ti better.

I think this is mainly to do with New people joining GR after d/ling BF and thinking they can host when they can't. I have found afew servers which allow 32 players with no lag and a h*ll of alot more servers which try to host 16 and lagg.

So basicly you just need to find the right host. They are out there.

Post by: DarK. on January 27, 2005, 10:01:06 pm
Itsl ike everyother game you have some servers who can handle lots of peole and others who cant, just because its a newer game doesnt mean someone who could host 12 on Ghr can host 24 on BF1942

People just like the higher numbers. I mean I can wait for BF2, it will support over 100 player games with dynamic maps and vehicles.

I played call of duty ua for the first time at a friends house the other day, and I have to say I love ghr games with 12 ppl but 12 is way to few for cod  and battlefield sounds even more immense than that! So I can immagive a 36 player game would own

When GR supports BF1942, it should support a PC server browser like many other games it supports.

I will own you all in Battlefield 1942...on a lagless server of course.  The lag is mainly due to bad servers.  64 players on Wake Island is too many, maybe not even 36(can we even get that many in a game on GR?)  I have only been on a few lagless hosts and they had either T1, or Bruthas 8mb.  Battlefield needs DEDICATED servers, not host from your computer.

True One, the problem is, who wants to fix a dedicated server? I just finished playing in a 12 person room, DTC hals host, and it worked fine. Had no lag...and we had a lot of action too. I dunno, perhaps the limit on this demo should be 18?

Title: Re: Absurd BF1942 Demo Lag
Post by: BTs_Mysterio on January 28, 2005, 02:25:21 am
I don't know. I think BF1942 demo does experience more lag than the full version. Typhy said my host was less stable than it was in full.

is it even possible to host dedicated games with the demo?

There isn't a dedicated application per say.
