Title: Apple Keynote today!
Post by: *DAMN Mauti on January 11, 2005, 05:32:36 pm
Hi,

already excited about the keynote? Only half an hour until it starts. What will it bring for us gamers? ATI recently released the X800 graphic card, yeah, but otherwise I don't see much coming new for us gamers. But I'm very interested to the see the new cheap Mac. If it's true 10 great new things will be presented tonight.

I'm thrilled.

See ya,

Mauti

• Headless iMac
• Powerbook updates
• Software inlucuding iLife upadate, Keynote2, garaband2 and iWork?
• Breakout box (I can't wait for this one)

Im guessing Aspyr will be showing of Doom3 Runninig on G5's at the Expo... Would be nice to hear some news that someone is porting the Havok game engine to Mac and then brining us GhR2, HL2 and RainbowSix 4!

Hopfully a good indepth look at Tiger... if anything i think tiger could be the biggest thing we see in regards to Gaming - expect for the Healess iMacs capability to be a dedicated Server?!?!  ::applause::

I don't think it will be useable for gaming, so don't worry.

Bye,

Whats a headless imac, or for that matter, a breakout box?

The breakout box will probably be used to plugin easily instruments to your Mac and use them in Garageband or other more professional apps.

Headless imac.... Very small mac low end specs - no Monitor : Goal to tempt pc users who love ipods but won't bye macs because they are 'too expensive'

breakout box... what mauti said -  Giving you a whole range of inputting and outputting sound to and from the mac fire firewire... should be sexy - ie plugging speakers, soundsystems, amps, decks,  keyboards or guitars, mics etc etc into your mac,

People wouldn't pick a Cube as a perfect server machine, but i remember the MP server on a cube running a 36 player room for GhR without question exteamly well...  I guess it depends on the Specs but if we're looking at a 1Ghz ish G4 processor with a 64MB graphics card, and  at least the option to upgrade the amount of ram (im guessing default will be 256)  then it would be very nice indeed.... Ok not my prefered gaming machine.. but we'll see ;)

So the Mini 'headless' mac.

including a slot-load Combo optical drive, FireWire, ethernet, USB 2.o, both DVI/VGA output. It [lays DVDs, burn CDs, and is very quiet and tiny. Its height is half the size of an iPod mini. Jobs calls it "BYODKM" -- Bring Your Own Display, Keyboard, Mouse. Will come in two models: 1.25GHz 256MB/40GB for $499. A second model with a 1.4GHz, more memory and larger hard drive will sell for $599. Mac mini will ship on January 22. Ships in a box smaller than the regular iPod box.

Damn it. Well the price is heiß, hehe. Unfortunaly this way it won't play RvS, but else this thing is genious. The size, the design, the box it is delivered. WOW. This machine will sell itself.

About the Flash iPod - Nothing new Philips already presented an allround USB Stick with 512MB, MP3 player, radio, and still working as normal USB player, so this is nothing special for me. May the handling of the iPod is superior but that's it.

Mauti

Yes now also Apple realizes what we gamer and protool user need:

And yes, Mac mini will take advantage of your two-button USB mouse with scroll-wheel and your favorite USB keyboard. Just plug them in.

lol, why cant Apple make a two-button mouse themselves finally?! jeez...  ::)

Elandrion I wasn't talking about the plug in and play feature I was talking that Apple uses the word two-button mouse  ;)

However damn this thing is weights 700gramm less than my powerbook. I love this thing. Damn that's what I call a true BareBone PC ;-)

Elandrion couldnt you fly to CA, 3 weeks later. The 1.25 only costs 360Euro, crazy!

Bahhhh, I'm disapointed.  >:(

No Dual 3 GhZ Powermac G5's.
No upgraded Powerbooks.
No eMac G5's.

What a bunch of crap it all is!

Title: Re: Apple Keynote today!
Post by: Civrock on January 11, 2005, 08:37:06 pm
lol, i expect 3ghz g5s in the first half of 2005 and g5 powerbooks not before the second half of 2005. ::)

g5 emacs... never. especially now that there is the cheap Mac mini. g5 mac minis would be something very interesting for the future, tho! ;)

First half of 2003....

Title: Re: Apple Keynote today!
Post by: *DAMN Elandrion on January 11, 2005, 08:48:56 pm
yeah its really small, cute and cheap, but not something i'd buy... not upgradeable enough...

and not enough drive space for a file server ;)

Title: Re: Apple Keynote today!
Post by: *DAMN Mauti on January 11, 2005, 09:01:48 pm
I would buy me one without hesitating one second if I wouldn't have a powerbook. This thing is just great, fast enough for DV editing, Photoshop, Ghost Recon, (I guess RvS won't run that well), dedicated game server, and if you buy it in the USA starting at 360 Euro. Further I really think this could be the perfect switcher reason for all PC user that don't play games. It has everything =)

About the HD: I guess they have built in a notebook HD!? Does anyone know more?

iWork also looks very promising.

Very nice Keynote, even if it's the first time where I'm not looking for a new Mac.

Bye,

Mauti

I was just browsing the iPod Shuffle page, and found a funny little easter egg (unless Apple Legal is REALLY REALLY PARANOID)

I circled it for you, but it's still hard to see.

"2. Do not eat iPod shuffle"

lmao

Would anyone buy this?

Title: Re: Apple Keynote today!
Post by: *DAMN Elandrion on January 11, 2005, 09:55:33 pm
yeah... but compared to my PB it wouldn't be a big improvement, except for the server, although i'd need some more external firewire cases.

here, the price isn't that nice... €500!

iWorks looks nice, thats true.

My brother is buying one to replace a old quicksilver (single 800) G4 tower). He's also looking into some iPod shuffles.

Of course it wouldn't be a replacement for your PB 1 Ghz Titanium, but as additional Mac at your country house, or as second Mac for your guest room, for switchers, as school computer, it's perfect. You only need more RAM. All in all I think the Minimac will have the success the Cube failed to have.

It's cheap, you are free to use your complete old peripheral devices, it's fast. If I look at my powerbook 1.33 is more than enough for anything else than gaming. So why shouldn't 1.25 or 1.42.

Games are a chapter on their own, but at this price you even don't get a gaming PC. I think it's a great step forward for Apple and the success will give it right!? We will see.

Bye,

Mauti

I guess this computer is ideal for people like my mother. She has an old 433mhz G4 tower, with a 19" display keyboard, mouse etc. She doesn't need the computer for much else besides Snood and email/word processing. It would be ideal for her to buy just this tiny computer for less than half the price a new tower etc would cost.

Post by: *DAMN Elandrion on January 11, 2005, 10:11:59 pm
yes, it is true that it would be a good computer for switchers, or a replacement surf/email/word processing machine, or a small development machine. there are truly enough uses for it. It just wouldn't be a nice enough improvement on my PB IMHO (1GhZ -> 1.25, Rad 9000 -> Rad 9200).

If it comes Airport ready I will buy one. My mom is looking for something to replace her g4 Powerbook because it hurts her neck.

lol, yeah, i had to notice that too after my download suddenly stopped 5 minutes before it was done!  ::wall::

Apple most probably noticed that somebody found that link, wherever or however (i got it from a friend) and set a forwarder on it... for some reason, the Björk website for her new album. haha... ::)
