Title: BF 42 Linux Dedicated Hosting
Post by: .vooDoo. on October 11, 2004, 07:14:20 pm
I was hoping someone out there could help me or point me in a direction to a tutorial for hosting a Dedicated Server for Battle Field 1942. I would like to run it on my Linux box. Its a 1ghz Pent. 3 with 512mb of ram. BroadBand 3000/300 connection speed, I think its enough to handle at least 10 players.

thanks in advance for any help,
voods

Here is a link with a really good FAQ section on BF1942 servers.

In my opinion, your RAM and CPU speed looks good, but if you only have 300upload, you will only be able to host 4 to 5 players running a dedicated server.  Assuming a maxrate of 8000 per player, 300/8 = 37.5 --> 37.5/8 = 4.69 --> 4 to 5 players max.  I have a excel spreadsheet on my site under the "files" tab that will do the calculations for # of players, connection speed, and maxrate setting (www.stalingradgaming.webhop.net).  The spreadsheet is set up for Call of Duty, but BF1942 should have similar bandwidth requirements.
