Title: How much earth do you use
Post by: BTs_FahQ2 on October 06, 2004, 09:05:37 pm
I use a total of 19 acres of land, if everyone lived like me, we would need 4.2 planets.

How do you compare:

Very cool find Fah.  Here are my results.
Keep in mind though i currently am living in a dorm room, that is a single, 6x10 living establishment.  Cramped, but its -MINE-.  That makes all the different  ;D
CATEGORY   ACRES
FOOD   4.2
MOBILITY   0.2
SHELTER   2.7
GOODS/SERVICES   2.7
TOTAL FOOTPRINT   10

IN COMPARISON, THE AVERAGE ECOLOGICAL FOOTPRINT IN YOUR COUNTRY IS 24 ACRES PER PERSON.
WORLDWIDE, THERE EXIST 4.5 BIOLOGICALLY PRODUCTIVE ACRES PER PERSON.

IF EVERYONE LIVED LIKE YOU, WE WOULD NEED 2.2 PLANETS.

Mine is at 20 acres...but that doesn't represent me exactly because I just happen to live in my parents house at the moment, I'll probably never have a place this big in my life once I'm on my own. I'm also more likely than them to have energy efficient things and to recycle.

w00t!

If everyone lived like me we would need 10.7 planets to live on!

I'm so glad I live off all the poor people in my area so I can take up more of a footprint.

(anyone feel the sarcasm oozing from my post?)

Yeah, but like the Daily Show it is funny because it is true ;)

Seeing as how I am a poor foreign college studnet, I only take up 4.5 acres. They need 1.6 earths to sustain a population of Cossacks.

this is linked to your armegedon beliefs, and your republican scemes, which doesn't believe in global warming.

Though feel free to englighten me.

It's kinda hard to answer this living in a college dorm with 660 people per building, and eating in the dining hall. I mean, I don't especially have control over it.

How the hell does BFG get 0 in mobility when he drives a car..and I got 4. I take the bloody train to uni!!!!

(besides, his feet are bigger so his footprints should have a bigger value. I think 2.8 planets is more like it ;) )

Cos i hardly ever drive it, and i never drive without other people in the car i guess :D

I walk to and fro to Uni every day anyway - its only a 30min walk if you keep in top gear ;)

true.... but i know that papa johns here only gets my order right 2 out of 10 times i order from them.. this past weekend.. I dordered my pizza.... they sent me the wrong one.. I when i called them and told them... The guy who took my order (who had to ask me 4 times what my order was b/c he kept forgetting while he was puting it into the computer) said that i ordered that pizza andstarted argui=eing on the phone with me about what pizza i realy ordered (i cant see how he can get the words meat lovers confused with the works..... i never said the works). So yeah.. papa johns is good pizza..... when they get the order right. but i will say.. I like papajohns old pizza better.... the new type is not as good as there old recipe they had.

Heh, I love those people who obviously are destined to work in minimum wage jobs for the rest of their lives.

I dunno about any new recipe. We changed a few toppings at the store I work at, but no changes in dough or methodology. Could be a local issue. Either way, that sucks.

You know, there's a part of me that hopes that the global ecological/economic crisis comes sooner rather than later. Sure, it'll be a rough twenty to fifty years (or fifty to two hundred if shitheaded squabbling over the last remaining resources precipitates nuclear war), but after the mass worldwide starvation, the wave after wave of pandemic disease that will spring from the first major die-off, and the brutal civil wars fought by profiteers, little dictators, and bandit kings which will occur after the people with guns and ambition get off their sickbeds, the twenty to forty percent of the world's population who survive may just put two and two together and wind up working together instead of wasting fully half the world's wealth and production capacity--not to mention man-decades of research--pointing guns at each other.

I dunno. When I stop and think about it, it really depresses me that I sprang from a line of highly-evolved chimpanzees whose greatest cultural achievement has been to elevate shitting in the river and bashing in the heads of the neighboring chimp band to global levels.

Beat your swords into plowshares, and there would be wealth, land, and food enough for every human being on Earth. But that's the biggest pipe dream there is. Humans never recognize the inevitable until it's far too late.
