Title: Map's in the *DBL
Post by: :MoD:Shade on August 19, 2004, 11:40:02 pm
I know Mauti wasn't going to add any maps but i think we should possibly revise the maps that are already in there.  If we have to go so far as to ban them from being played in cb's then why were they put in there in the first place?...not very good testing?

Anyways, i think the maps that are left in the map pack like, aztec, nomad, market, downtown aren't usually played anyway, and even these maps are rather glitchy and appear slopply mad.  In my opinion downtown is actually a very laggy map but maybe it's just my bad comp.  I was just thinking that we could use some nicer maps that look more like this:

That map is called the outpost and can be found here: http://www.fileplanet.com/dl.aspx?/planetrainbowsix/atwar/GR/level/tg_map1_mac.zip

This may only be me who thinks that the maps aren't played often but...just another suggestion...;)

we had to play Aztec or Downtown in almost every cb.

It's just you. Nice map,though.

Well that makes it sound like you were forced to play it because there were no other maps to play.  And even still, i love downtown and aztec.  But downtown remains rather laggy and aztec has some huge glitches in it.

Hi Shade,

yep the TG1 map is a very nice one, you are right, but as you say it yourself we would need extensive testing next time we add a new map pack to the BL. For season IX the time is already too short and further I think the time isn't ready for another update because there have been too many in the recent past. However keep this thread uptodate when new cool maps arrive and if there are some I maybe release a beta version in midseason we can test until season X starts.

Bye,

Mauti
@ admins: I'll response to all your emails tomorrow and the day after.

Here's an extremly popular map in the PC GhR world it's called White Skull Valley, but unfortunatly i can't seem to find a mac version but i think i know a few people who are willing to convert it.

Here's a shot of the map:

We need more of them and less counter-strikey crap.

fantastic, brilliant, wonderfull, anyone join me in a quick knees up while i dance about?!

Lot of the recent maps about have been urban... i love vilnuis, embassy, and a couple of the new ones have been kinda cool - but it it isn't GhR, its a ugly mix of CS, UT, QIII, RvS etc!

the whole point in GhR was it was these fantastic easturn european maps with lots of trees and foliage, streams, the odd building, mist fog and what have you... some maps like those ss you posted shade look awsome, hell the more the merrier as long as there is some disgustingly extensive testing off them before they hit the BL...

Like rampage said, true GhR  ;D now to go get a copy of that map

Ok, the scond map doesn't convert for some reason.  Anybody willing to try to convert it would be much appreciated.  If anybody else finds some nice maps similar to the first one i posted that would be great.  Right now i'm going through all of the mods in search of a nice map which is a tedious process... :(

Yep I tried it and the reason are the textures -> remove them and you will be at  least able to look around on a white map. Once I get the textures the map will be available at *DAMN but it seems the PC creators are very busy at the moment so I don't when this will be.

bye,

Mauti

Yeah definately some new bigger maps... all the maps that were added to the Map packs were small, or spread out i.e nomad camps.  These maps dont serve well for cbing (i.e. de_dust, it was a sensor extreme spawn advantaged map.)  Downtown was by far the best map added thru the DBL 1 and 2.  Even tho shade says its laggy... I see no difference in it and any other DBL map.  I think that if we get some "true" ghost recon maps like the ones shade and others that I have seen are put into play in cb's and such, we will have a much better DBL and a game that just keeps getting more fun as it keeps getting more and more outdated.

DH out

Downtown has some glitches that I have walked into accidentally though, the kind that make everything but the sky disappear... And that really stinks. It has gotten me killed.

Post by: Civrock on August 24, 2004, 12:48:50 am
same here... i played some games on downtown yesterday and was running once, simply running through a street... then suddenly i got stuck while (!) running. i was suddenly standing there and couldnt move anymore...

that disappearing bug happened to me too already, aramarth... for example in the houses, when u walk into rooms or go stairs (i'm still talking about Downtown).

Yep... and its horrible when that happens.. - i sometimes get it so i can see the floor but nothing else - its 99.9% results in cannon fodder for your guy as yoru totally helpless... not a nice bug!

yeah I have seen/ been victom of falling from your doom from 3 stories up on some of the building tops... or somehow committing leg suicide by "jumping" out a window... but I think that Downtown should still be in the cb's just because of its major popularity!

I think we could use some maps from Island thunder...  it has great maps and wy not use it in a cb if both clans have it and wanna play those maps.

I know that almost every person in this ladder has it!!!!

I know some of us have problem whith there FPS in game but not all of us  :)  :)

You can atleast think of it to next seson....

See ya all soon...

I wish for the following: That you withdraw the current mappack's.. both of them. Go trough them, to remove any and all "shit" maps and the banned ones, which could be defined by the community trough various votes. Maybe remove some guns? And some game modes? I hate to flip trough tons of never used gamemodes when hosting.

Then maybe add new maps, that would go trough extensive testing and approval of the community once again.

Finally bake it all together into one *DAMN battle league mappack 3.0.

Just a thought.

I like Joka's idea.

A step further may be to say "Why don't we play season IX with all stock maps?"

You are trying a "rebirth" of sorts with the scoring system so I think it would be great to get back to the basics, at least for the season.

Might spark the interests of some old vetern players who haven't liked the way GHR has headed on GR.  I must say.  At first I dug Aztec, Dogtown, Dam...etc.  But now I can't stand them.

The only one I think is pretty cool is Tower, but that's about it.  Shallow Creek too but it's mad buggy.

Guess we only have today to decide but why not?  STOCK ONLY FOR SEASON IX!

I polled about one of the glitchy maps in particular, and I got a 2/3 response in favor of fixing old maps. Not all of them will be as easy as others, but since there is interest, we will look into it.

gah... I've been playing this game for almost two years... these mappacks are the only things that are keeping me interested...

I say, keep em comin'

For those of you who are interested....

1. Im currently hosting a copy of the proposed *DAMN Mappack 3.0 (http://www.thehub1449.com/DAMN/index.html) Please share this file between you rather than all dowloading from the site which has limited bandwidth!

2. there is a thread  here (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~damnr6/yabbse/index.php?board=2;action=display;threadid=7002) for all discussion and feedback :)

Cheers and enjoy :)

My 2 cents . . . I think we should only add maps that can be run without lag on the minimum requirements for the game, otherwise a lot of people are being screwed over (sort of like many of the new maps in *DAMN mappack 3.0) that would make the most sense to me. Some of these maps you have added can't even be run with 700mhz and a gForce 4 card.

Then I have no clue what's wrong . . . I can't even run many of the maps in *DAMN mappack 2 (which is what caused me to quit cbing) and now *DAMN mappack 3.0 just makes my problem worse. My specs. here are eMac 700mhz. gForce 4, and it's really unplayable.

hmm... the eMac with 700Mhz has the GeForce 2MX btw and both mappacks work on mine without big problems. i have even less fps on some original maps.

make sure  Your using this link yes?

Try using Safari or otherwise and not internet explorer - several guys had problems with IE understanding the link!

nahh . . . mine has a GeForce 4 . . . I don't know why, that's what it came with. Until I get my G5 back, I'll try a couple things to try and get it to run faster.

Gabe the first thing to try is to turn of the 1.5 Map pack - we've done several tests and, well simply put, it lags.... you might find that turning it off makes the beta of MP3.0 work much happier :D

I assume you meant Krush, not me... I have no problems with any of the mappacks.

And yeah krush, try turning off the 1.5 with the 3.0.  The villa map is a little slow sometimes because it is so enormous, but something you can do to help is getting rid of the sound file - there is an air conditioner sound that tends to lag it up a bit.

Sorry Gabe, yes i ment Krush :)

Just out of curiosity were you trying it with your graphics settings maxed out? - ive only played it with most of my graphics settings quite lo... (most people do!)

I tried it (villa) first with all my settings on low (except 1024x768 res and mipmap textures on) and i got the full 60 fps, except every couple seconds when the air conditioner sound plays my screen would freeze up for a split second.

I then tried the map on full graphics... and while i can get great framerates on all other maps with everything up (including the IT maps), I would get about 1/2 fps.  I figure the reason for this is that the map is, first of all, gigantic, but it also has tons more shrubbery and other objects than most maps have.

btw, my framerate did not improve with the high graphics settings after turning off the 1.5 maps.

Post by: BFG on September 04, 2004, 12:45:57 pm
Ahh ok, worth getting rid of the sound file for the air conditioner.
I guess 99% of people have their settings on low or at least certainly not maxed out hence why we've not come up against this before

I'm the 1% I guess.

It cant be 99% because im 1% too.............Must be 98%    :)

Post by: Brutha on September 09, 2004, 02:48:04 pm
Assuming 200 ppl play this game, and you two play it on max, it would still be 1 percent ;).

As for the sound problem on "villa", delete the sounds folder from the map pack. That will fix the problem, and essential sounds are not lost.
