Title: iPod in trouble? Post by: crypt on July 07, 2004, 09:13:40 am It appears iPod's future may be in trouble.

This .txt file shows a specific complaint aimed at Apple, Toshiba, and Cnet. http://www.eff.org/IP/Apple_Complaint.txt (http://www.eff.org/IP/Apple_Complaint.txt) Title: Re:iPod in trouble? Post by: Supernatural Pie on July 07, 2004, 09:43:04 am "At $150,000 per song, that would make Apple potentially liable for $1.5 billion per iPod"
"Apple's sleek digital audio device is one of the most successful tech toys, selling more than 3 million units since November 2001." Lets do a little math. 1,500,000,000 x 3,000,000 45,000,000,000,000,000 No, not even Bill Gates has that much money. Title: Re:iPod in trouble? So apple would only get sued for units sold after the bill goes through.
Title: Re:iPod in trouble? Post by: Supernatural Pie on July 07, 2004, 06:00:52 pm Good point.
Title: Re:iPod in trouble? Post by: Mr.Mellow on July 07, 2004, 06:57:44 pm Yep, you can't be liable for something that happens before a law is in place.
Title: Re:iPod in trouble? Post by: Ace on July 08, 2004, 01:24:51 am This act is extremely evil and has the potentional to inflict great harm on the tech industry. Read more and take action here (http://action.eff.org/action/index.asp?step=2&item=2918).
Title: Re:iPod in trouble? Post by: Supernatural Pie on July 08, 2004, 01:54:26 am What are the realistic possibilities of this actually being passed?
Title: Re:iPod in trouble? Post by: crypt on July 08, 2004, 02:01:39 am Apple will probably have something up their sleeve. I hope they do at least. Lets face it, if they ban free p2p file sharing, anything to do with the music product industry will suffer, not just the iPod.
Title: Re:iPod in trouble? Post by: theweakspot on July 08, 2004, 02:32:17 am no way we there will be a 'ban' on P2P technologies like the iPod. At least this way the music business makes SOME money with the iTMS. The old way they made squat.
Title: Re:iPod in trouble? Post by: crypt on July 08, 2004, 02:52:43 am I would be all for them banning all those p2p networks. I don't like using them anyway.
Title: Re:iPod in trouble? Post by: spike on July 08, 2004, 04:37:14 am Apparently the iPod and such other devices have been getting by so far because they have "substaniale legitimate uses." But if they enact this law and ban the iPod, would they not also have to ban burnable cds and even tapes? tapes are easily copied, although it takes a little more time. The recordable industry must make a huge amount of money on selling burners and burnable devices. Would they not be shooting themselves in the foot to enact this sort of bill?
Title: Re:iPod in trouble? Post by: c| Lone-Wolf on July 11, 2004, 11:20:56 am I think its insane. Period. Purely insane. This is why the senate/house shouldnt be able to get into these matters, because they dont know what theyre doing. =p
Title: Re:iPod in trouble? Post by: BTs_Mysterio on July 11, 2004, 11:43:20 pm Well, up here in Canada I don't have to worry of silly american bills, as long as it doesn't ruin Apple....
Title: Re:iPod in trouble? Post by: crypt on July 11, 2004, 11:52:07 pm Well, since it's US based, you will have the same effect.
Title: Re:iPod in trouble? Post by: BTs_Mysterio on July 11, 2004, 11:55:10 pm Point, perhaps. If this goes through we must blame it on bush.
