Title: Apple WDC Post by: BFG on June 26, 2004, 02:29:10 pm So the rumers are still flying... but thinksecret (http://thinksecret.com/news/wwdc04apple.html) has done a rather good sum up of what they think we'll be seeing in just a few days time!
Personally i would love to see some new displays, a new design infitting with the stunning G5's but also a price slash would be nice ;) No new imacs... but surely they must be coming soon they desperatly need a shot of new life. Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: kos.viper on June 26, 2004, 04:54:52 pm www.macrumors.com pwns thinksecret :)
Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: BTs_Mysterio on June 26, 2004, 06:16:21 pm Apple Insider is the best rumors when they do real reports. They knew the exact design of the G5 1.5 weeks in advance. They, and everyone else, always call BS on anything Think Secret says. So here's what I'm gonna say:
Chance of Upgrades: iMacs - 75% iBooks - 35% iPods - 85% eMacs - 70% PowerMacs - 25% (Only if Apple pulls one over on us) PowerBooks - 40% New Product - 80% Displays - 95% That's how look. Don't question the rumors, I know. Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: Ace on June 26, 2004, 08:31:57 pm iMacs will not be updated.
eMacs will not be updated. iBooks will not be updated. PowerBooks will not be updated. Anyone who says otherwise is retarded. ThinkSecret has by far the best track record of any Mac rumor site. Macrumors doesn't count because they simply sum up what all the other rumor sites are saying. You can count on new displays. The new iPod is the only other possibility, but I very highly doubt it. Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: BTs_Mysterio on June 26, 2004, 09:25:24 pm Ace, despite their name, they have the worst rack record ever. Think Secret is pure BS run by a dreamer. If you think we won't see anything new from those products we will have a terrible disappointment on our hands.
Ask anyone from Apple insider of mac rumors, think secret isn't reliable. Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: Supernatural Pie on June 26, 2004, 10:37:59 pm Steve Jobs should start a rumor site.

Check out Think Secret's archives (http://www.thinksecret.com/archives/) before you pass judgement. They are remarkably accurate. They don't post news as often as sites like Apple Insider, but that is because they only post verified, accurate information. Just off the top of my head, I remember they nailed rumors on the 3G iPods, ARD 2, the iPod mini, and the most recent laptop updates. In addition to ARD 2, there have been too many other correct software rumors to mention. Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: crypt on June 26, 2004, 11:51:33 pm Something gives with the iMacs, they haven't updated it in a long time. Either they are gonna get a 1.5 GHz G4, G5 Processors, or they are gonna cancel it all together.
Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: BFG on June 27, 2004, 12:10:09 am Quote iMacs will not be updated. eMacs will not be updated. iBooks will not be updated. PowerBooks will not be updated. Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: BFG on June 27, 2004, 01:01:30 am Tiger? Usless? What? Never! I cant wait to see the next version of X!!
And we are (most probably) going to see these smexy new displays - thats not a bad thing at all! Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: crypt on June 27, 2004, 01:09:43 am I can't see the Panther to Tiger update as being as big a jump as Safari to Panther was. Panther was a huge hit, but we will know a lot more by July 2nd.
Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: BTs_Mysterio on June 27, 2004, 02:00:19 am Unless Tiger is scary new technology they better have some form of Hardware updates. The keynote is on Monday, now it is in time's hands.
Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: BTs_Lee.Harvey on June 27, 2004, 02:44:44 am Too bad that i Hear that they are not broadcasting the keynote thns time (unless things change between then and now)
Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: crypt on June 27, 2004, 05:30:35 am We'll hear all about it come then anyway elsewhere, no need.
Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: BTs_Mysterio on June 27, 2004, 06:35:18 am Sites like Mac Rumors and I think Think Secret will have live updates of what's going on.
Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: crypt on June 27, 2004, 07:50:12 pm They better have updates!
Tiger is all I really care about at WWDC. I mean, it IS a developers conference. Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: l ! l Ross on June 27, 2004, 09:10:33 pm I was hopping for new imacs. Plan on getting a G5 iMac :)
But it can't be to long after WWDC that they will be out (I hope). But Tiger and Monitors should be good. Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: *DAMN Elandrion on June 27, 2004, 11:17:59 pm But it can't be to long after WWDC that they will be out (I hope). hmm... the next big event would be MacWorld Paris, and this would fit better for consumer hardware... Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: Civrock on June 28, 2004, 12:04:49 am and for a broadcast.
Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: crypt on June 28, 2004, 12:19:35 am When is MacWorld Paris?
Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: BTs_Mysterio on June 28, 2004, 12:20:12 am They'll put up a stream after the keynote ends. They always do.
Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: Civrock on June 28, 2004, 12:25:42 am Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: crypt on June 28, 2004, 12:40:30 am That's not very soon, it'll have to be way before that. The iMac needs an update more than any other computer on Apples line, it hasn't been updated since October.

The iMac needs an update more than any other computer on Apples line, it hasn't been updated since October. True but there is one product which needs it most. The Apple Studio displays are getting to be old. Pinstripes is so 10.2... And lest we forget that there are also New HDs available from Toshiba like the current iPods at 60 GB. Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: BFG on June 28, 2004, 03:47:34 pm Interesting both macroumers and thinksecret reported an apparent leak of 10.4 last night - some pictures were up but nothing much of huge interest - some little widgets for controling itunes, notebook and stickies with calc etc... no big "WOW" elements and the authenticity was questionable... kinda looking forward to seeing what they have in the bag for us though! :D
Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: BTs_Mysterio on June 28, 2004, 05:03:12 pm Mac Rumors is going to have a live update starting at 1 PM EST. I have a GR chat ready :D
Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: BFG on June 28, 2004, 07:19:43 pm Thank god... New displays as predicted!
23" display. Aluminum enclosure. one piece alumnium stand. Small bevel. One cable from the monitor which then splits. :D -------- oops almost forgot: 30" Display. 4.1million pixels. same one piece alumn enclosure. firewire/usb. ;D Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: BTs_Mysterio on June 28, 2004, 10:23:45 pm TIGER OWNS LONGHORN! Every feature matched and then some!
Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: BFG on June 29, 2004, 12:25:08 am Damn right. Tiger is going to look pretty damn smexy. All i need now is a brand spanking new 3.0 Quad G5 and a 23 (i would go for 30 but i want a better Graphics card) sweet new smexy monitor ;)
... oh and of course the cash to buy it! Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: crypt on June 29, 2004, 01:42:39 am If anyone is gonna buy a current G5 now, they should try and wait until next year. With 64 Bit Tiger OS X, and whatever the top of the line G5 is by then would be smoking. Not to mention adding a 30" Apple Cinema Display with a nVidia 6800 Ultra DDL to the experience. Maybe at MacWorld SF?
Someone has gotta have the cash to do this. Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: BTs_Mysterio on June 29, 2004, 02:32:42 am I'd do it but I just lost my right to beg for money form parents cause I just bought a iPod.
Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: BFG on June 29, 2004, 12:05:13 pm Holy crap... well i just watched the Webstream of the WWDC Keynote.. and oh my god.
1 displays - no way im gonna miss out on slapping one of those babies on my desk... jesus imagine having two of the 30inch displays lined up as you edit in FCP !!! Phwar! 2. Don't like those damn widgets - did they shut their eyes when it came to the design of these things? 3. Tiger - shit tiger omg im liking new interface and as for searchlight .... 4. ichat av.. hehe multi party confrencing - 4 way video chat - so sweet. Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: Mr. Lothario on June 29, 2004, 03:05:26 pm I dunno, BFG. Didn't Jobs say that the designs of the widgets were still under construction? Even if they do stay like that, I don't mind having a seperate class of apps which have a funkier and more interesting design ?sthetic. The only thing I didn't see in the Dashboard demo was the ability to tag widgets to stay "Expos?d" even after all the others have been dismissed. Calculating things contained within a document or watching a webcam are two situations I can think of where I'd like to have a widget or two hang around pretending to be normal apps.
Searchlight looks sweet. I do find it kind of amusing that Apple's going back to the metadata fold after making such a sharp break from the heavy metadata structure of the classic Mac OSes. The interface for multiple video conferencing is exactly the sort of thing I'd expect from Apple. Lovely and functional. I always enjoy seeing how they've leveraged their low-level additions to each OS to enhance the apps shipping with it. Given the existence of Core Video and Core Image, the videoconferencing interface is a snap (but it still took that special sump'in' sump'in' to put two and two together). I also liked their focus on getting SDKs into the developers' hands. Smart move, in keeping with the relatively new, smarter Apple. Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: the oNe on June 29, 2004, 03:44:28 pm Man, over 1000 people are downloading the developers preview now...damn pirates.
Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: crypt on June 29, 2004, 04:20:04 pm lol, You were looking for it!
Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: the oNe on June 29, 2004, 04:33:40 pm actually no, I'm dling a game mate ;o
Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: Supernatural Pie on June 29, 2004, 04:42:18 pm I'm horribly disappointed with WWDC.
:( Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: BFG on June 29, 2004, 05:03:57 pm Thats very true loth, and thinking about it i suspect these things will be disgustingly easy to modify and tweak. I think we'll be able to keep widgets up as well - like u said for a webcam or say stock ticker...shouldn't be hard
And when browsing the apple site there was somthing it said about how you could adjust the widgets just by spinning them round as all the controls/settings were on the reverse/!? sounds interesting!! Searchlight does look fantastic, and very fast.. and yeah its slightly amusing how apple have traveled around with their search features - from the finder to Sherlock up here, down there, left right up and back and here we are back again - mind you this looks like the best yet and i can't wait! The power of harnessing the meta data is inpressive. Its clear to see where Core Image and Video are going to become invaluable - I expect we will see MAJOR updates to ilife - the implementation of these technologies could raise the bar for programmes like iphoto and imovie tenfold. Snipe i dunno why your so dissapointed - i thought what we saw of Tiger was extreamly promising - lots of 'under the hood' work seems to be going on and one of the most inpressive things i think i saw other than the stunning new monitors was the new Video Codec - it is simply quite awsome. All in all i thought it was good stuff, lots of encoraging info and titbits ... ok so we didn't get a new line of imacs etc.. but we all knew that wasn't going to happen... this was a WWDC ... not a consumer show Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: crypt on June 29, 2004, 05:49:25 pm I'm horribly disappointed with WWDC. :( Tiger looks amazing. The displays were and are stunning, but not being able to afford one, I don't care about them. They introduced only 10 of the 150+ new features of Tiger, which is still a year off. Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: BTs_Mysterio on June 29, 2004, 06:35:14 pm I'm sure we will see a real Tiger Demo at Mac world Paris is it? This fall?
Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: Supernatural Pie on June 30, 2004, 01:45:50 am The next big thing is Macworld Boston (new this year.. used to be NY (where I met Evill! :o )).
However, it's july 12, so not much time to get anything new... Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: BTs_GhostSniper on June 30, 2004, 01:59:33 am (where I met Evill! :o ) So, how did that go? Tell us all about it![/size] Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: BFG on June 30, 2004, 02:04:03 am Quote However, it's july 12, so not much time to get anything new... * Places bet on an imac update * Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: BTs_Mysterio on June 30, 2004, 04:10:40 am Apple hates "Macworld Boston" that's a well known fact. I don't think they'll even attend that.
Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: Civrock on June 30, 2004, 09:25:21 pm ermm... did nobody notice what words Steve Jobs used at the WWDC to demonstrate "Spotlight"?
"Paris", "iMac" and "Birthday". now think about it... :o ;) Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: BTs_Mysterio on June 30, 2004, 11:26:51 pm Some one should slow down the the video and see what was on the iMac smart folder list.
Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: BFG on June 30, 2004, 11:45:59 pm lol. and his left nostril twiched two and a half times when he typed imac suggesting that as one sock was raised 2 centemeters higher than the other that new hardware will be realeased......
looking forward to it :D Title: Re:Apple WDC Post by: BTs_Mysterio on June 30, 2004, 11:55:06 pm I noticed that exact thing BFG.
