Title: enemy ATR files
Post by: ogre_h on June 21, 2004, 03:29:35 am
I want to give enemy characters custom weapons in my mod.
Should I define them in the atr or edit them in the mission file?
Which has priority?

I use Igor and kit files. Easiest way imho.

I usually just edit the default enemy atr files, quicker than opening up all the mis files and less chance for error, if you forget a quote in an mis file you're going to CTD that misson everytime. Editing the default enemy kit  files will work also, but there's less atr files than kit files. If you already have kits made, I'd do that..

I'll edit the default atrs then.
That'll probably be the quickest way.
Thanks

Hey, remember that there's a different set for each misson pack. GR DS IT. I always change the characters of the OPFOR, even if you are using the ones already there, it's still fun for me. Mixes it up a little. You can also make them more agressive/better shots by upping their stats in the atr files.

I did that with your jungle chr's on IT missions. Sooo cool.  ;D

Once I get them all with the kits I want, I'll work on changing the characters around a bit.
I've got a new Spetsnaz uni sample I want to play with.  ;D

Well, the Spetsnaz character hasn't worked out so far, as it looked like too many characters that I and others have done.
It was going to be based on this The Gorka-R BDU

I'll keep plugging at it though and see if it will work on a different model than I had originally planned.

I saw a post on OFP News with a skin like that from RHS. It'd be cool to see in GR, I think the Russian chr with the radio headset would be good to base the skin on.

Yeah, the OFP site is what inspired me  ;D
The problem is the uni's basically just OD.
You know I've got that Beret Attachment. Hmmm

As you can see the uniform is fairly plain. I still have to change the tab on the beret, to something more Russian, and I may change the vest. The Gorka-R pattern is supposed to be for Special Forces in the Mountains.

Ok, updated the skin a bit, fixed the Beret and worked on a new pattern for Astra

Looks great ogre. I think it's be even better if you could repoduce the color variations on the pockets and elbows of the first example you posted.

And Permskii is a god. I love his site and all his posts on milphotos.

That's one of the problems I've been having with this uni.
That and giving it the Nylon-ish plastic sheen to it as oppossed to cloth.

Ok, for this version, I think I got a better sample of the two different shades on the uni. Feedback?

A few more tweaks, saw a problem with the leg texture. Also darkened the skin over-all.

Looks good. If you want to get the nylon look, best bet is to use a piece of the nylon cloth and apply it to the texture. I did that with the Alpinistim uni in IDF and the ones coming out in the Frostbite add-on. It's tricky, harder than a camo overlay.

Thanks
What do you do, grayscale a piece of nylon and then apply it to the texture?

Ogre -

I'd be warry of hotlinking from there, the guy who runs it is a regular over at militaryphotos, he's quite protective of his images. Maybe dl them then host them on photobucket  ;D

No, for something like that, I try to find a nylon piece that's the same color.  In the past I have drawn on the highlights/shadows instead of  making the texture transprent, i tended to lose the effect when I overlayed it/ It really depends on the image you get to work with.

Hmm, drawing on the details may be a bit beyond my current photoshop skillz. To say nothing of finding a big enough piece of nylon the right color. I think for now I'll approximate with Contrast, Brightness and Lightness settings.
