Title: Info about network routers/wireless
Post by: the oNe on June 10, 2004, 12:15:23 am
Hi,

I'm trying to find a good stable reliable router to network my two macs.  I need some opinion on which one is the best.

Sincerely,
oNe

I would go with a dlink.  They're cheap and reliable.

I use a linksys, it kind of pisses me off sometiime. Not because I dont know how to use it, but because I always have to reset the stupid thing. It alos needs more port fields if your port forwarding alot of different ports, but mine is old and the firmware just may be outdated.

I had a lot of problems with d-links after we had more than 2 computers on the network. Ended up getting the official airport set-up, and barely any problems since then.

set up and ran several lynksis with no problems at all - can be fiddly setting up the MAC address etc but if you know what your doing and you read the manaul if you don't... ;)

Maybe it was an older model?  I've got 5 Mac's on this one Dlink (3 physically, 2 wireless) we now own and haven't had any problems inside of the network.

So, D-Links would be the best option for me?  I thought Linksys was pretty good, guess not.

Linksis are good, don't overlook them just yet.  Btw, I use linksis and ariport extreme.

I have had a netgear router for a while (wired) and I found it very easy to use and set up.. I'm sure the wireless ones are just as easy. And like I said they have one that just came out that is twice as fast as the air port extream...   www.netgear.com
