Title: Does anyone know who makes Apple's RAM? Post by: "Sixhits" on June 09, 2004, 08:08:53 pm Apple's RAM is a waste of money.
Who the fuck would pay $1050 for two one-gig chips? I will buy one of these new G5s, oh yes I will. I just refuse to buy Apple RAM. So, does anybody know who manufacture's Apple RAM? Or who is an affordable alternative? Title: Re:Does anyone know who makes Apple's RAM? Post by: BTs_Lee.Harvey on June 09, 2004, 11:45:10 pm I believe Kingston make the ram for apple.. but not 100% sure of it.

Btw, I went and checked on RAM for the G5s. Here's Kingston: for a 2 gig kit it's $929.00. WTF?! Near a grand for two chips? http://www.ec.kingston.com/shop/modelsinfo.asp (http://www.ec.kingston.com/shop/modelsinfo.asp) Here's random generic RAM: from DealRam.com. A quick estimate shows 2 gigs for $450.00. http://dealram.com/prices/systems/30633/1GB.html (http://dealram.com/prices/systems/30633/1GB.html) Apple is cornholing us. Title: Re:Does anyone know who makes Apple's RAM? Post by: BTs_GhostSniper on June 10, 2004, 05:46:54 am I bought my RAM for my G5 back in November 2003 when I bought my computer. I got the RAM from www.macsolutions.com (which I've used to buy my RAM for about 10 years now). I paid only $128 for 1 GB of RAM (I bought two 1 GB chips). So now I have 2.5GB of RAM and I spent only $256. I believe the prices have gone up some on macsolutions since then, but it is still really affordable from them. Also, I have never experienced any problems with their memory, and it comes with a lifetime warranty (their service is very good as well).

http://www.crucial.com/library/quality_page4.asp (http://www.crucial.com/library/quality_page4.asp) I would never buy at Apple's extremely high prices for RAM, but I certainly wouldnt blow my money on crap memory that is going to last mere months before deciding not to work any longer. Paying a bit extra for quality RAM is definitely worth it. And buying 2x1GB modules instead of 4x512MB is nearly twice as expensive, so you could cut costs there if you have excess RAM slots. Nothing more depressing than filling your slots up with small ram modules, then having to rip one out and waste it and have to buy a replacement larger one.... best to get a mix, get the bulk of what you want in one chip and make sure you you have some space to expand.... get your top up of 256 or somthing - ... hell actually what am i saying, you can never have too much RAM ! :D Title: Re:Does anyone know who makes Apple's RAM? Post by: c| Lone-Wolf on June 10, 2004, 09:48:04 am How many slots total in the current G5's? 4x2? (since its dual slotting) or more? And, anybody think theyll come out with more than 4x2's? (or whatever the existing number is) in their next G5 release?
Ok im retarded, didnt see they released new ones today. My bad, ok how many slots are in the 2.5? Title: Re:Does anyone know who makes Apple's RAM? Paying a bit extra for quality RAM is definitely worth it. I've never had a problem with the memory I've bought (at a LOW price) from macsolutions. It is just about the cheapest memory available, but they don't use generic memory either. Also, their memory comes with a LIFETIME WARRANTY. A chip I bought from them 10 years ago (a 32MB SIMM) is still working fine in my daughter's Performa 575. So if it has a LIFETIME WARRANTY....and I've NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE MEMORY OR THEIR SERVICE, then tell my why I shouldn't be spending $128 for ONE GIGABITE OF RAM. Think i might mosey on down to their website right now and take a peek - now if only i had a new G5 to put it into ;) Title: Re:Does anyone know who makes Apple's RAM?
