Title: M$ might just half to launch it's own 2007 switch campaign Post by: BTs_Mysterio on May 06, 2004, 10:58:50 pm http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=70804
There's a link to a thread on Mac Rumors (in reply of a report based on MS's recent updates). Long Horn may just be the apple killer! But I think they'll have to realize the bullet comes out of the barrel of the gun, cause right now it's the wrong way around. Besides the OSX look-alike interface, preliminary system requirements are: A triple core 4-6 GHz (64-bit recommended) processor 2 gigs of RAM 1 TB of HD For the System alone. That could just be the stupidest thing I ever heard. It looks like MS may end up shooting themselves upside the head. People may realize it will be cheaper to go mac with requirements like that. Welcome to Macintosh! ;D P.S. Almost forgot the ugly screenshots: http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase/longhorn_4074_02.asp P.P.S. found more http://www.winsupersite.com/images/reviews/winhec2004_24.jpg <---that is of the avalon interface P.P.P.S http://www.winsupersite.com/reviews/pdc2003_aero_keynote.asp last time I swear! Also, if you look at how technology has been progressing as of late, those requirements (except for the HD) will probably be standard (or even surpassed) on low end PC's when Longhorn is released in 2007.
This is built to be a next generation type of OS, forcing people to upgrade their computers. You guys forget that up until recently, advances in software programming forced people to upgrade their hardware in order to run it, and this is perhaps a throwback to those days. Assassin, we're talking bare to the ones "OS" OS! OS! Requirements, this is obscene for that. One thing is that the President of IBM wants their PCs Windows-free by 2006. Also, it's the end of Microsoft's rapid and staggering growth. It's stock is pretty much the same as it was in 1998. Another thing is their software is good, but their marketing sucks, just look at the windows software for cellphones. Seems like Microsoft spent billions on the gaming/entertainment department of their company. The only thing I ever liked from Microsoft was xbox. Anyways, back on topic, Longhorn looks ugly, they should hire a better design team.

Longhorn reminds me of Apple's Copland project, which should have become what OS X now is. (Un)fortunately it got too bloated, and Apple completely thew it out. |
