Title: Re: Official Tournement Thread Post by: Bondo on July 31, 2002, 08:49:12 pm "Good ideas Bondo, 2 out of 3 will make for some long battles, oh well...-Typhy"
I copied this quote over from the BL because I think this needs a little discussion. What are the feelings on this, do you think it would be too much. I figure a 10 game CB shouldn't take much more than 30 min so it would be about 90 minutes worth and that is if it was stretched to 3 CBs and 10 games each time. I don't really want to just have one CB (even a longer CB) because I think having 2 of 3 makes it more likely that the best team will win. But if people would rather have 1 CB that would be considered. Another would be that instead of playing a full third CB that some sort of tie-breaker be implemented if the clans split the two CBs. This discussion affects both Clan and 1v1 so all are welcome to comment. Title: Re: Official Tournement Thread Post by: Typhy on July 31, 2002, 08:55:15 pm Well, personaly, I think that it could cause a mess, we have enough troubles trying to hold players together for a 40 minute clan battle. I think that with this, you will have a lot of players having to leave part way through, I think that the best way to do this would be to just have a losers brackett, Here in Alaska, we've got a tornament called "Gold Medal" it's for baskettball, it goes double elimination and seems to work well, it can all be done in about 10 days with 80+ teams. I think that with double elimination, if someone is just having a bad day, they still have a chance, and that's good, My thoughts are, go with the double.

Title: Re: Official Tournement Thread Post by: PsYcO aSsAsSiN on July 31, 2002, 09:08:32 pm There are ways to configure a RS dedicated server but I dont have the foggiest idea in hell how. I do know that Romulus set one up when he was in CIA to try and taunt us, but that eventually fell through.
Title: Re: Official Tournement Thread Post by: Typhy on July 31, 2002, 09:47:21 pm Basically, the person who is the host for a neutral server shoud kill themselves, most people frag themselves, I've found it easier to just have the other person shoot you. That way you don't risk getting hurt by an acidently misplaced gernade.
Title: Re: Official Tournement Thread Post by: Bondo on July 31, 2002, 10:28:49 pm I was under the impression that in RS you could be an observer and not be on either team...or is that only in coop...anyway, if not yes, the player just kills themselves.
About double elimination, after doing that with the 1v1, it streches out way to long, if anything I'll just have it be single elimination with one CB, if you have a bad day you lose...kind of like the NCAA tournement. Title: Re: Official Tournement Thread Post by: †FiRE Infection on July 31, 2002, 10:32:21 pm Yea Bondo if it isn't going to be best out of 3, then it should just be single elimination with one cb. The double elimination would work but when people drop out it can get very confusing like with the current 1v1 although we have that figured out now. Also with the single elimination it is much easier to have more people in it and if someone can't get it done, they will be kicked if it is in the first round and if in the later rounds there apponent will just move on.
Title: Re: Official Tournement Thread Post by: Bondo on July 31, 2002, 10:36:29 pm Well, I've made up my mind that the 1v1 will just be single elim, single CB, not yet decided about the clan one though...
Also, wanted to add that both tounements should run the length of September and require people who win to play two opponents a week. Anyone who won't be able to do so should not sign up. Title: Re: Official Tournement Thread Post by: †FiRE Infection on July 31, 2002, 11:09:26 pm Also this is to Casper about asking when it will start. It won't be for about a month. There is plenty of time so enjoy your vacation. Sorry not to put this right where you asked but that is only the signups.
Title: Re: Official Tournement Thread Post by: Bondo on August 01, 2002, 12:53:06 pm Another question...how would all of you feel about making CSL the mandatory map (for 1v1 at least) so that each side has even starts? Possibly there are other ones with even starts that should also be accepted?
Title: Re: Official Tournement Thread Post by: Typhy on August 01, 2002, 01:01:33 pm I don't think that CSL as the mandatory map would be a good idea, take a map like Siberian Base I, you're almost even in that. Perhaps you should make a list of ban maps, ones where one side has a big advantage: Warehouse, Chalet Gardenhose inserts, etc.
Title: Re: Official Tournement Thread Post by: †FiRE Infection on August 01, 2002, 07:27:52 pm Well, I think most people here don't use cheap maps to win and would trap you in the guardhouse but I guess it could happen and It will be a good idea to limit the maps. Mb I will talk to Bondo and we will limit it to the smaller maps for quicker and funner games, and also take out some maps that could have cheatings. The maps we use would probably be some of the usual and we will compile a list. I don't want to take out too many maps though. Just ones that may be cheating. I'll see what Bondo thinks.
