Title: Ubisoft Announces Ghost Recon 2 for PC Post by: Civrock on April 09, 2004, 08:03:16 pm SAN FRANCISCO, CA - April 8, 2004 - Ubisoft, one of the world's largest video game publishers, today confirmed development of Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon? 2, the long-awaited sequel to the best-selling modern military shooter that changed the online multiplayer experience for both PC and console fans around the world. With this title and two other key announcements to come in the next few days, Ubisoft is expanding its lineup of war games to every segment of the military category, from historical to near future, and aggressively positioning itself in the competitive war games market which accounted for 5 out of the top 10 shooter franchises in 2003. The Ghost Recon? franchise contributed greatly to the strength of this segment with more than 5 million copies sold worldwide.
"Our ultimate goal is to become the primary player in the military shooter game arena, thanks to both our? internal studios, proven to be amongst the best in the world in this category, and also through strategic alliances with high profile 3rd party developers," said Yves Guillemot, Ubisoft's President and CEO.? "Stay tuned for more announcements that will significantly expand this area of the industry and further reinforce our overall military strategy." Developed by Ubisoft's award-winning Red Storm studio, Ghost Recon 2 launches on next-generation consoles and PC this Holiday season. The game is set in the chaotic battlefields of tomorrow, and will offer gamers an insider's view of the way large scale conflicts will be fought in the near future. "Ghost Recon has established itself as a mega-selling franchise, and we've retained the core elements that made the first game such a success," said Laurent Detoc, President of Ubisoft, Inc. "But for Ghost Recon 2, we wanted to dial up the intensity and adrenaline to create an experience of total war. We've retooled and improved every aspect of the game, and have integrated a host of incredible new features - and the result is amazing. You will truly feel like you are the hero of a near-future war movie when playing this game." Ghost Recon 2 will continue the tradition of intensity and realism associated with Ubisoft's Tom Clancy brand, with an emotionally charged storyline, a completely redesigned graphics engine and the most intuitive gameplay to date, to fully immerse gamers into the chaos of a high tech war. The game will offer more action than ever before, as it puts players in command of an elite squad of special forces thrust into a tense political situation in East Asia. In addition, the top-notch multiplayer action that gamers expect from Red Storm will once again place Ghost Recon at the top of online console and PC gaming and will be a must-have for all online gaming fans this holiday season. rumours say that it'll come for MAC short after. let's hope so... also let's pray for a good port. :) Title: Re:Ubisoft Announces Ghost Recon 2 for PC Post by: :MoD:Shade on April 09, 2004, 08:12:23 pm Ohhh boy...i can't wait...i've been keeping up on the progress at ghostrecon.net in the forums....i don't think i can wait till christmas but boy will it make a good present. :)

ah, now then, the 10 minutes I just spent rolling around on the floor in mortal danger of laughing myself to death has given me some time to do some thinking. This could actually turn out to be a good game. ***waits for laughter to subside Assuming they get rid of the friggin edge glitches and the laser guns I might actually enjoy playing it. I loved the maps and tactics of ghr, I just didn't care for the glitchy/buggy nature of the game or the disgustingly unreal/unbalanced weapons. "a completely redesigned graphics engine" That should fix the edge glitching. I can't wait to see some more information on what the new game will bring. I can't wait, I know this will be a grade A game. Title: Re:Ubisoft Announces Ghost Recon 2 for PC Post by: PsYcO aSsAsSiN on April 10, 2004, 04:00:31 am They will do the same thing to this game as they did to Raven Shield...I don't have my hopes up too high for it.

By this, do you mean the late-ass port to mac? Title: Re:Ubisoft Announces Ghost Recon 2 for PC Post by: PsYcO aSsAsSiN on April 10, 2004, 07:49:34 am No, I play on a PC...what I meant is that they will release an incomplete product (with major delays) with serious gameplay issues that won't be resolved until they are close to releasing an expansion pack. Then and only then they will get their acts together hoping to draw people back so they can successfully sell their xpac.
They fucked up Raven Shield bad, pissing almost everyone off, and it wouldn't surprise me to see the same thing happen here. My only complaint of the game is the low FPS I get. And the system requirements for RvS is 733 MHz and I have a new PB 1.25GHz and I still get about 12-15 FPS with everything set to high and running at 800 x 600 resolution. The occasional time I will get 25-30 FPS but that seems to only last mere seconds and when it gets into heavy traffic times (ie. many players in the same area and shooting) it lags like a mother f____er.
I am anxiously waiting for CoD and I would rather the game be postponed an extra 2-3 months, if it meant getting a better ported game. So if anyone out there has any pull with Aspyr, please relay the message, b/c I think most ppl here agree with me. Title: Re:Ubisoft Announces Ghost Recon 2 for PC Post by: |MP|Noms on April 11, 2004, 10:51:53 pm Actually let me correct myself, I just played RvS right now and I am getting about 5-10 fps on average and occasionally it goes up to 20-25 fps for mere seconds, I have been playing without the fps activated during the game so thats why my previous numbers were wrong.
Title: Re:Ubisoft Announces Ghost Recon 2 for PC Post by: l ! l Ross on April 11, 2004, 11:21:18 pm Noms you should not have everything set on high. Medium is the best.
Title: Re:Ubisoft Announces Ghost Recon 2 for PC Post by: Blitz on April 15, 2004, 05:11:25 am I am so happy to see people stay on topic! I just love it! Besides, the GhR2 will most likely have the same system requirements of RvS, if not higher.
Blitz 8) STOP THE SPAMMING! Title: Re:Ubisoft Announces Ghost Recon 2 for PC Post by: BFG on April 15, 2004, 04:51:41 pm Firstly if its a brand new graphics engine, it will hopfully be making use of the new tech on the latest graphics cards... it would be hard not to have a new graphics engine that really does no less than *shit* on the original GhR engine - ok it looked nice with full graphics etc... but it was still blocky, and very rough around the edges...
To see GhR 2 using somthing superior to the current unreal engine would be very nice. Quote as it puts players in command of an elite squad of special forces thrust into a tense political situation in East Asia. And a proper bloody map editor would be nice... first job to port all the original GhR maps to GhR2... lastly like noms said... i hope its delayed by 3 months and they do the port properly, than rush it in one and do a shitty port that just runs like shite. |
