Wrath : There's a difference from "camping" and "being a smart sniper waiting for his time for engagement". Thank you very much  ;D

Ult, since when have YOU been a Sniper? I never knew that... must be since i left GamerAnger. It's not CAMPING, It's sniping. Gunnery Sergeant Carlos Hathcock was the BEST sniper ever. 93 confirmed kill's durning his tour in 'Nam... Very nice. 'One shot, One kill'.

"The sniper is the big-game hunter of the battlefield, and he needs all of the skills of a woodsman, marksman, hunter, and poacher. He must possess the feild craft to be able to position himself for a killinf shot, and he must be able to effectively place a single bullet into his intended target." - From Marine Sniper

"There have been many Marines. There have been many marksmen. But there has been only one Sergeant Carlos Hathcock. A legend of Marine lore. He stalked the Viet Cong behind enemy lines. His record has never been matched: 93 confirmed kills." - From Marine Sniper

I don't think the window bug on the Storage Depot map counts as sniping.. heh

Is anyone else here worried that Rom may have access to real guns.... *cough*sonofsam*cough*

Grifter, Grifter, Grifter....I am not a violent person. And what is this bug? Is it in the window of the little building? I was playing on Utl's server yesterday (No, not from myGamerAnger, from my friend's) and he killed me... It was not normal though, to only see a gun, and then to die... Normally you would see the person also, no?

And all those quote's are from a really great, short book, called Marine Sniper by Charles Henderson[/i].... It's a good book ;) but a bit too short... It's only 280 pages long...:(

No, it's not called a bug, its called hosting.  If the host kills you there is chance you won't see him in window.

There is a difference between sniping and camping. What destructo said was a form of camping. Camping is most often associated with C4 traps and SA HBS/jammers. Sniping is when you pick a ?tactical spot, just you and your handy gun, and wait for the bastard to come in open view (ex. in tower at the Ruined City). Romulus, stop quoting stuff and trying to sound smart because we all know you are a dipshit.

Ah, so I see...

I like to camp. I use HBS and C4 to trap victoms, but I also use high powered sniper rifles to kill with. I set a door trap, so I can watch my SiX while I proceed to snip tengo's...

Do some homework Rom. Start with Ferguson. Move on to Hayha and Kolkka. Yakovlevich. Zaitsev and Koenig. And if you're clever, find out who Thorvald was.

Okay  :)

I problely forgot to mention that I was only stating that he has most CONFIRMED kill's, and was the USA's best sniper. Sorry.

Do some homework Rom. Hathcock has 93 confirmed kills.

Simo Hayha has over 500 confirmed kills. Yakovlevich 496. Zaitsev over 400. Kolkka over 400. There are a bunch more who have many more confirmed and unconfirmed kills than Hathcock.

Waldren, a US sniper in Vietnam had 109 confirmed kills.

Grace, a confederate sniper took a man down from 800 yards. In 1864.

Do some more homework, black.

Wrath has over 1000 confirmed sniping kills.

Blackhand, I know about Grace, but not the rest. Thats fucking awsome... Over 500...

*Set's down "Marine Sniper"[/i] and curses about book's lying to him!*

Wrath - Shut up. Please.

Hey rom, I don't think the book is lying to you, I think it is the illiteracy that is the problem.  Letters->Words->Sentances->Paragraphs->Story

Title: Re: A day in the life of a Camper....

No. On the back cover of Marine Sniper is say's the following:

His record has never been matched: 93 confirmed kills.

I can read just fine, but I think the book is wrong, being BlackHand say's that some sniper has over 500. I would like to see a book or a site that state's this, not tha I don't beleive you, but that is AMAZING!

Well, I can understand how a non U.S. Sniper would have a higher count because other countries didn't restrict targets as much as ours.

its preety doubtful that Vasili Zaitzev got 400 kills (in the battle of Stalingrad alone) because a whole lot of those could have been propaganda, like the story of vasili taking out the german sniper.

points:
Carlos made what i think was the longest recorded kill with a .50 BMG mounting a telescopic sight, on single fire. i cant quite remeber, i think the range was 2.5km.

Carlos crawled for 4 days across a 1000 yard field, avoiding dog patrols and making the 700 yrd kill.

also, if you want sniper quotes you should check out my pic and signature.

Post by: SiGmA_X on October 31, 2001, 01:28:48 am
Yes, Sheep, it was with a M-2 .50-Cal, and 2500 Meter's (2.5KM).

That 4 day 'crawl' was to kill a old general of the NVA, and it was an 800 yard shot, not 700yrd. I think that the book said it was a few km he crawled, not just 1 km, but Ill check...

Sheep, what you said about that, 1st line, what do you mean by sniper taking the german guy? it sound's like "Enemy at the Gate's", no? Was that movied built around the guy's life?

Rom..

I am so flattered that you think i'm the idiot of the forums....if that is the case, why are you replying to my forum post???...odd

There IS a different when you are in a tactical position during game play...then it's ok to sit and wait becasue you are in a visible covered spot to engage an enemy...I speak of the guy who for example sits on the second floor of CSL in the corner facing the stairs waiting, who has no clue ehat's going on around him..that's an example..BUT just because you are in a great tactical position does not mean you don't move...sure in real life snipers rarely move, but that is becasue they have confirmation that the place they are sniping is the most likly and or an exit/entrance of something or a very high volume of enemy traffic...but in RS you do not have confrimation. If you sit waiting it's camping...mainly becasue there is no more then an average of 6 players in an RS game...

Peace

I'm not saying that Hathcock wasn't a great sniper and what many would call the ffather of modern sniping.

What I am saying is that Hathcock is not the sniper with most confirmed kills. Nor does he deserve to take all the credit for modern day sniping tactics.

The Russian army in WW2 was the first to use two man sniping teams. The German army was the first to coin the position of "sniper."

While the Zaitsev vs. Thorvald battle may have not taken place (Zaitsev has neither confirmed or denied it), his kill count is legit. At least to the point where at the end of his service he got many more than Hathcock. Why?

In WW2, sniper's weren't always used on a mission to mission basis, rather they were told to go out and kill any enemies they could find.

Simo Hayha, who wasn't so much a victim of propoganda and scruntiny as Zaitsev, killed over 500 russians during the winter of 1939-1940 using only a iron sighted Mosin.

I think it was 700 yards. He also killed an entire NVA company in 5 days and suffered severe and duty retirement burns while rescuing wounded soldiers from a burning train.

Bondo, that may be true. Had the british marksman Ferguson taken a shot at the Continental officer who turned his back, George Washington would be dead.

Dest -
?Yes, I see what you mean... If you are really sniping, there shoulnd be a problem. It's snipin, not campin, right? If you are sitting on your ass in a corrnor, its camping, if you are moving around, prepin the shot, you are sniping.
Blackhand -
?True, but accurding to that book, it was 800yrds (Page 199, paperback, edition 1986, Auther Charles Henderson, Publisher Berkley)
?It was him and his 'spotter', Burke, took out that NVA company. another thing that he was recconized for on Hill 255 was killing the 'apache'.
?He ws burned and nearly killed while he was in a convoy. He saved some other Marines, but it wasn't a train.
?I never knew that the Mosin was that old! The VC and NVa still used them in 'Nam!

For the record.. ANyone who quotes passages from a book about sniping is a nerd god. Why the hell do you guys post on this forum discussing the "ethics" of camping and sniping? Fun Fun.. Go outside... It's cool I promise.

PS: Most of you don't know me and will bombard me with stupidass insults.. Keep in mind though.. I actually have a life..

Ace, sticking your lube tube up wrath's ass via cyber space does not count as sniping.

Faus, the Windowed guy who co-funded FEAR? We kno him, and he's tight. Faus, you must understand, we are talking about a book. I talk about books to my IRL friends also, and we are just discussing a book that sorta has stuff to do with the game that we all play, when we are not on our computers. And you are not the only one with a life, many of us have them also.
