Title: Fighting the war on SPAM and other eMail treats
Post by: |MP|Buccaneer on February 14, 2004, 06:48:43 am
Hello all,

I know a while back a couple people were asking about fighting SPAM in the email.  The latest and best hope is using electronic signatures on our mail.

I wrote a bit up about it on the MP site (http://mp.macclans.com) if you want to actually read why they are important.  But I'm not going to repeat it all here.

Just leave it to say, if you want to help fight SPAM, or are interested in keeping your e-mail private (and even encrypted) you can get your digital signature here:

https://www.thawte.com/html/COMMUNITY/personal/index.html

It's free.  It take all of 5 minutes to set up.  It works with the Apple mail.app or MS Entourage seamlessly.  The certs go right into your keychain.

This is in the step 2 and it wants you to tell them your USA Nationality Identification.  I think its a joke right now...

Blitz, to help make it secure they want a secure number.  You don't have to use your social security number, or your drivers license number, you can use the "other".

It's no joke.

I never really got this "war on spam" stuff. I have only once recieved spam email and that was when i signed up for some porn news letter thingy...to study human anatomy ofcourse, no other motives.

Other than that i have never got any spam mail, so its kinda redundant for me. But keep up with the good cause, fight the power!

I don't get much spam myself, I take steps to avoid it.  But, just for the simple fact that it helps prevent spam period, and it also makes your e-mail more secure, I'm all for digital certificates.  Especially since they don't cost anything, and you can make them even more secure by using the built in encryption.
