Title: Seeking advice from the Wise
Post by: DJO on October 25, 2003, 05:01:55 am
Greetings and hello to everybody from New Zealand!

This is my first post to this forum, although I have been lurking around for some time trying  to find the answers to my problems from reading what has already been posted.  I am amazed at the wealth of information which is indeed available and my congratulations on what I consider a high degree of professionalism on the site.  I am new to the world of modding, but am fast developing an addiction! It adds a whole new dimension to the standard game, and it is great to see so many people producing such creative work.  I feel very much like a raw and experienced recruit amongst the company of a veteran campaigners!
Bravo to you all!

I have been playing GR for awhile now and have enjoyed it immensely.  I was excited to discover that there was a method for converting Island Thunder to the Mac platform.  I followed the instructions for conversion very closely and although Island Thunder did startup I had white screens, missing buttons and the game was obviously not working properly.  I have been trying to get the mod; WOI,  working also but I was having the white screen problem with this also.

After doing some research on the site, it appeared to me that my problem was an update issue.  I came across a posting, which gave step by step instructions for updating to the required version.  I followed this and I am glad to report that it has made a substantial difference .  My version of GR is now at 1.4.

WOI, is now working perfectly, Island Thunder appeared to be also as it runs fine through the briefings, assignment of soldiers.  However when I click to begin the actual gaming, the game suddenly quits completely and I am returned to the Finder.

I am at that frustratingly "Almost there " stage.  Any hints, tips or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

DJO :)

Hrm, if this is indeed an on going problem, I might suggest you backup all of your .xml and .txt files in your "Ghost Recon - Desert Siege/Ghost Recon Data" folder, move them somewhere safe temorarily, move out all of your installed mods(including mp2) you have to a convienient place, then delete, reinstall, repatch, reinstate the .xml and .txt files, and put the mods back to their place.

Hrm, before doing that, I have one question...
Have you modified any of the data in the origmiss and or MP1 folders?

Oh...when deleting, if you absolutely have to, don't backup Origmiss and Mp1.

Hi S.P.I.D.E.R !

thank you for your reply, First,  in answer to  your question,  no l have made no  changes  to the data in the origmiss and or MP1 folders.

l followed your  instructions,  but IT still dumps me back to the the  finder....

l have a new theory!,  l noticed that when IT is the active mod it crashes if l select one of  it's native missions, however...  it runs okay when select a mission  from  a different mod.  Could this mean that my Mp2 conversion is flawed and l missed something?

Your Thoughts?

Cheers,

DJO

What are your cpu spec's? IT puts tremendous strain on even the high end mac's.

When at the mod screen, Desert Siege should always be at the very top of the list, then Island Thunder should be the next mod below it, anything third party goes above.

Have you tried yelling at your cpu yet?  I do that all the time. lol, but on a serious note, here are two links you can take a look at. IT Modding Tutorial (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~damnr6/tet/fullnews.cgi?newsid1047213617,6556,) and Advanced Modding (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~damnr6/tet/fullnews.cgi?newsid1063648962,80863,) if you have already gone threw those helpers Mauti Im sure may have some added support for you.

I am sorry for most of my attention to this thread, but when perscribing problems on other people's machines, I am about as much help as calling windows tech support (the fun ones that would seem to think that reinitialization + system reinstall = only solution).

DJO when Ghost Recon crashes after you have tried to start an IT mission please open your .lke log file located at your Ghost Recon folder and post the content here. I guess you didn't rename the map subfolders correctly so it can't find the map and quits back to desktop.

Bye,

Mauti
