since ghost recon players are lucky enough to get a game where u can get a game where u can go online and have team chat and all chat they should utilize it and make premium only games where u can chat and stuff, how fun now? who could take the responsibility to host a dedicated like that

what I think smokie was referring to is insure that everyone in the game can use the voice communication feature that was added, so everyone can talk to each other.

Thank you for the clearing up Splinter, I just wanted to see if people would take use of the premium only chat during games.  Talking to your team and to other players with the press of a button like built in netfone, with out the problems of disconnects and ip finding.

I think GR should be reset so that every account is equal, only that if you don't pay the $50 you can only use it for 30 days/a week. (And if you made another account, you'd have to use another computer ? because of the MAC number ? and you're bound to run out of computers sometime.)

And it should not be reset, since some of us decided to pay for the service earlier.  We paid, each for our own reasons.  

Smokie, you are a bit wrong though.  The chat can be used in ANY OSX game.  Not just GhR.  Evill even mentioned that if you run RS in classic mode, not in OS9, that it would work.  

Yes, I realize you are requesting someone to put up a premium only dedicated server, but I just wanted to make sure people understood that it's for all OSX, not just GhR.

thats a good idea, but i think a timer on the top right corner of GR for none premium users allowing people to play games only for 2-3 hours a day if u dont have premium, or maybe a 10 hour a wekk is better

That would never work. Anybody with half a brain could spoof their MAC to something new every 30 days. And remember, there are 2^48 possible MACs.

NetFone was only $20, but glad you bought premium anyway.

I think that the chat in GR has potential to be much better then netfone.  The only thing I've heard people complaining about is the lack of voice activation, and myself, I like push to talk anyway.

The only other advantage of NF right now is that you can talk to people outside that game, but that's also a weakness, as  people have learned in CB's.

Some reasons i think GR premium ingame chat > Netfone

1) You don't have to run around grabing ip's
2) Talk to a public group of people ( everyone )
3) Talk to a private group of people ( your team )
4) Buttons for both groups
5) Doesnt need to involve another outside app besides GameRanger and GhR (desktop if you want fits.)

Some Reasons i think NF < GR Premium ingame chat

1) Need IP's
2) Only Private groups
3) Optional hold down button
4) Static at points
5) Echo
6) Outside app
7) Difficult for new timers who pirate that app anyways and don't know what to put the settings to
8) If you dissconect with someone you have to quit the game to re connect
9) Takes a while to get a group a sembled if someone does not have static ip.

Like i said in a diff tread.. I like Premium cjat.. i whish evill would make mouse butons assignable to the chat feature. (on a 8 button mouse like mine it would keep me from have to take my hands off the mouse/movement buttons to talk. I have tried the diff drivers to bind the mouse buttons to keystrokes.. but i loose the function of some of my mouse buttons. W/ the drives inplace only 5 out of the 8 buttons work right while playing GhR. So evill please make mouse button assignable to the voice chat feature.

Ace, I know my idea could never workl, but for other reasons than that you can change your MAC, because I don't think a lot of GR users would know how to do that, do you?

Kami, as many GR users that know where to find games to download (pirate), I'm sure that they would figure out how to spoof a MAC address.  Especially since half of the people seem to have routers and it's a function in many routers.

Word would get around fast.

Voice activation or a toggle key would be perfect, and toggle wouldnt' be all that hard to do anyway :P

voice activated chat would be stupid because ur speakers or ur little sister or your moaning girlfriend would make it activate

And just to keep this somewhat on topic.  We are still having issues when running NF and GR Chat at the same time.  At least some of us with digital mic's are.

Can i take this opportunity to bitch about my digital mic then? Its a rather pricy Platronics DSP and should be a very fine and dandy mic indeed, complete with all the trimmings... Yet the damn thing keeps on suffering from what appears to be overload. The mic appears fine but the headphones crack up and decide that everyone im tlakign to sounds a bit like a west yorkshire Darthvader calling u from everest on a very bad line....

BFG i get the same thing... what it seamed to me at first was maybe the unit was not getting enough power at times for the DSP unit to work.. so i got a power usb hub.... well that didn't work....... everyone esle that has this unit said it works fine for them so i thought it was b/c i use a powerbook...now i dunno what it might be...... what type of comp you on... g3,g4,g5,powerbook,ibook,imac?

Hey BFG.. an update on the pantronics prob we seem to be haveing..... updated to panther...i have had no more problems...

and the vol. buttons now work on it.......... they controll the system volume

BFG, have you attempted to read the manual under trouble shooting? If there is nothing there, I'm sure if you visited the webpage for your digital mic they should have a small forum or email/online chat service of some sort, or you could upgrade to Panther which is kind of a hefty cost for a fix, just return the mic and try another if none of the above works for yah.

Harvey your a star ty. I had given up on Platronics updating anything and i was somwhat convinced it was my hardware. Just for the record im using a 1Ghz DP G4. And like you ive tried it with a powered hub to see if it was a power issue...
