Well now we know you can use FSNV in windows by switching the files before the game starts.  Your FPS takes a hit for this, but its still a do able thing...sad.  Looks like some people  other than myself have figured this out (i dont use windows mode, my comp is not good enough).  I warped all over the place in windows, but it still worked.  I've also heard that some people have killed some text files to take away trees on the map so you can see everything.

I thought this was all going to go away with the new cheat rules....wrong.  There is now game ranger pluge in's for anti-cheat modding, but is any one working on this?  

So sad that some of these clans need to cheat, even the top clans. You guys are good enough already, c'mon! :(

Well to have the NV files on your desktop isn't a prove that you cheated but yep there are a lot of cheats like you said so the cheat test rules say that you have to meet each other near a building, stone or tree.

However the only way to prevent cheating is to create a plugin that compares the checksum of the original folders. This would work very effective against most cheats.

yeah,
someone should tell evill what files we need checked, i would be i'm not to sure what all the exploitable files are. I think there may be some sort of punishment feature for having modded files, like not being able to play for 24 hours, or a time period that grows after each offense.

I'm also thinking it should force the options.xml to make everyone run in fullscreen mode so files can't be swapped out midgame. Both these things shouldn't take to long for evill to impliment, so untill someone gives him a list of files, we get nothing.

Quite easily eight. Just check options.xml at the start of every game for <FullScreen>TRUE</FullScreen>. If it is not there, ban the person.

Its also easy to change, thanks to xml parsers. Ace and i did something that does just this in java, and i'm sure evill can do it with C++. Evill also has access to the ghr source so the tweaks could be built in, and it wouldn't take him very long to acomplish this.

Evill was saying it would take a long time to have each computer checksum the files, however i just checked the MP1 folder(400+megs) and it took 4 secs on a 7600rpm ATA100 drive, and i play on the lower end of the min requirements.

Also there is no proof that guy was using it in the CB, its just really shaddy to do that. Whats the point of  having those folders there when they will show up in a screenshot for the cheat test. If your concerned about FSNV then always do the tests before the cb with clans or players you suspect use that hack.

Its not a mod, its a plugin
when you join a game GR will do some checks automaticaly, if you've modified your files you can't play, or might face some form of punishment. Making sure your not swaping files while in windowed mode seems like a new issue that needs to be adressed.

Well you don't have to compare the checksum of the whole origmiss or mp1 folder only some files and subfolders. For example the complete sound, actor, briefing, shell, folder could be left out.

May I find the time to send Evill a mail with all files that should be compared.

If anyone knows how to view all the files in the origmiss and mp1 folders (ie the rsb's), it would be greatly appreciated. I need to go through them all and see what needs to be checked.

whats the point of having an anticheat system if it leaves a massive hole to allow texture swapping?
I'm not saying you cheat, because frankly FSNV doesn't concern me, but wallhacks, unis modding and nofog hacks do concern me.

Nova, it's a tradeoff. If you want to be able to play in windowed mode, there would need to be a way to check each file before each game starts. This is too big of a nuisance, so if you just force full screen mode, you can check at the start and be done with it. Besides, who the hell plays GhR in windowed mode anyways? The only time I use it is for running a dedicated server, in which case there is no worry of cheating with wallhacks and the like.

Well here is a question (sort of related)...

Have the glow hacks (enemies glow bright orange or yellow), map hacks (all enemies appear on your map - kind of like sensor everywhere) and silenced hacks (gun fires like it is silenced) appeared on the Mac yet? These were pretty damaging when you played against people with these hacks on.

Also...it is good to see that Evill actually cares about the playing community and might be willing to create a plug-in to stop cheaters...he seems to be taking Game Ranger in a good direction finally (might be because he has made a ton more cash with that "premium service")

Actually Mauti has the site with all these cheats on it.  So any admin that wants to know more about it can ask him.  I sent him all the info earlier today.

it would be quite simple to make an anti cheat mod, actually... Just make a mod with server-side instead of server-client (never tried it myself but should work) And there all the files that can be modified should be ;D  simple...

It would be appreciated if a moderator here would use the split thread function and cut the shit regarding cheating out of this thread. This could have been a worthwhile topic of cheating accusations weren't brought in here.
