We are writing this petition to Haxial as a group of Macintosh gamers who use NetFone for voice communication while playing multiplayer games. We believe it to be the best solution currently available for the Macintosh platform. We also believe that NetFone can be improved in this role. In order to have this occur, we, the loyal users of NetFone, would like to request the following changes to NetFone: A client-server connection model in addition to the currently-implemented peer-to-peer system, both for ease of connecting (because each client only needs to connect to the server), which would also serve to offload the bandwidth burden onto the server, because each client is only sending and receiving one stream. Packet compression so that the data stream requires less bandwidth, and/or a codec that has better quality and less latency. NetFone works well, but it requires too much bandwidth and its latency is too great to be optimal for gaming. If these changes were implemented, NetFone would be a better VoIP solution for all applications, and it would be tremendously more useful as a VoIP solution for gaming. Since there is no effectively competing product for gaming VoIP on the Macintosh, Haxial would see brisk sales of NetFone were it enhanced in the ways requested above. Currently NetFones voice traffic stops as soon as RS is finished loading, which makes it completly useless.
