Title: Weapons info. & discussion Post by: Lupus on March 19, 2003, 08:55:54 pm I have been to all of the wepons sights I can find including isayeret.com and still have questions. Maybe we can discuss the IDF Weapons here & have a pinned post for weapons questions in the future.
First, exactly what is a M-4? There is the COLT-4 RIS, COLT M4 SOPMOD, COLT M4 Maglite, COLT M4 CQB, there is a Marksman version too etc. I use the COLT M$ SOPMOD a great deal. It sometimes appears to be a tad short on stopping power but is a very versatile weapon. I saw a picture that said it has an M16 trigger. It looks like an M16 varient, matybe a little shorter. I believe Ghost Recon has an M4 that is the standard demo characters weapon. I am guessing from that information that it is a slightly smaller version of the M16, with a little less stopping power but more manuverable in tight situations. I have been unable to find definitions for SWS (sniper weapon system?) RIS SOPMOD (special ops. model?) CQB (close quarters?) Maglite (Mag. flashlight attached?) ARIS Secondly I am trying to figure out one of my favorite weapons the KAC series KAC SR-25 KAC SR-47(sd) KAC SR-15 (SD) The 25 seems to have the greatest:range, power, accuracy followed by the 47 and then the 15. The KAC 25 and 47 usually with SD are my favorite assault weapons Thanks for any light anyone can through on these weapons. RIS= Rail Interface System maglite= just a torch to put on a gun (is that right?) Title: Re:Weapons info. & discussion Post by: Suicide_Commando on March 20, 2003, 02:34:11 am SOPMOD = Special Operations Peculiar Modification
Title: Re:Weapons info. & discussion Post by: Lupus on March 21, 2003, 10:32:16 pm Here are some links I found in my rifle search that other newbies might find helpful.
http://isayeret.com/ This one was suggested to me on this board. It has information on Israeli weapons and their history. Since the Israelis use some of the same weapons as the US there is information relative to US Weapons too. www.quarterbore.com I got this link from Knights Armament when I asked for specific information on thier weapons in an email. It has information on SR-25 Sniper Rifle, SR-47 Rifle, SOPMOD M4, KAC, RIS, RAS. www.impactguns.com Another link suggested by Knights Armament. Lists many rifles and accesories. http://www.rifleshootermag.com/directory/directory This is a link to Rifleshooter Magazine where there is a directory of links to most relevant Gun Manufacturer's web sites. Title: Re:Weapons info. & discussion Post by: Cocobolo on March 22, 2003, 09:20:24 pm The M4 and all it's variants are originally derived from the bigger M-16 series, the M4 is a shortened, lighter model. There are various modifiactions that can be done to accurize the gun, or adapt it to various environments/missions. The M4a1 typically is seen with the plastic front handguard, the M4a2 is the newer model, and employs the RAS (Rail Accessory System) foregrip I believe.
SWS (sniper weapon system?)--->correct RIS--->Rail Interface System (used for mounting accessories, derived from the picatinny rail, invented right here in NJ!) Same as the RAS. CQB (close quarters?)--->Close Quarters Battle Maglite (Mag. flashlight attached?)--->Flashlight manufacturer ARIS--->AR15?? Secondly I am trying to figure out one of my favorite weapons the KAC series KAC SR-25--> Knight's Armament Corp's version of an improved, more specialized M4, which fires the larger, more powerful 7.62mm round. (Standard M4 fires the 5.56mm round) Before the US military adopted the Rail accessory systems, KAC was making them for years. KAC SR-47(sd)--> Knight's Armament Corp's SR-15 Variant which is specially designed to utilize Kalishnikov (AK-47) magazines and their 7.62X39mm ammo. This way special operators can use mags picked up on the battlefield. The "SD" indicates that the weapon has a sound suppressor mounted on it. KAC SR-15 (SD)-->Knight's Armament Corp's improved M4, fires the 5.56 round. Title: Re:Weapons info. & discussion Post by: Lupus on March 22, 2003, 10:42:31 pm Thanks for the info. Cocobolo! The sites I found above were kinda getting me there, at least I have an idea of the advantages, various Mods and uses of the IDF weapons now.
I like the KAC SR-25 and the KAC SR-47 both SD for game use. The 7.62mm seems to work better in the silenced weapons I frequently use. I just finished the entire Ghost Recon and Desert Siege Campaigns using the IDF Mod. It was great fun, thanks for the great Mod.
