Title: movie: Tears of the Sun
Post by: |MP|Nomad on March 08, 2003, 05:49:38 am
Hey ppl, I just got back from watching the movie Tears of the Sun and I thought I would give yall a little synopsis of the flick.

If you are a hard core warfare covert ops movie fan then i would say "yes" go see it.  However, it disappointed me in that there were only 2 major battles (fight scenes) when I expected much more.  The first scene was in my opinion by far the better of the 2 fights, where the US Seals take a small village with only pistols (silenced).  The tactical way they approached the village was great. Also, during the main battle when they set up a "line" where when one soldier would run out of ammo they would tap the next soldier in line and tell them they are reloading and in the mean time that reloading soldier is moving down the line getting the whole group away from the "hot zone"....brilliant moves.

The movie reminded me so much of paintball (outdoors) on how close the fighting was b/w the Seals and the enemy.  I have learned some new lingo, like, "perimeter up" means set up a perimeter, etc.
Bruce Willis was ok in the movie but it just seemed that it was limited in budget cuz they only had 2 fight scenes.

I also found the movie to be a little to USA patriotic or whats right and wrong.  For example, if you watched the movie Saving Private Ryan, aat the end when Capt. John Miller dies there is no hugging or high-5's, which is way a movie is supposed to end.  This flick when they make it out alive they are all olding each other (mainly due to their injuries), it just looked like they were "trying" to act rather than just making it look natural and not "trying"

Overall, it was an ok movie I would have to rate it 3.5 out of 5, but its ok to watch and mb get some paintball tips on tactics, etc.

ps.  at the beginning of the movie, when you see the soldiers first get into the DZ (destination Zone) they are wearing camo face paint...i almost

 ::) in my pants.

My 2 cents

You almost shot some sniper guns in your pants? Meh, however you get your jollies (thanks capt).

I was going to see that tonight, but we decided on The Life Of David Gale, which was...meh....it had it's points, but i'm not going to go through it, i hate critics.

You're lucky you didn't fire that big sniper gun in your pants, that might've hurt... a lot.

I saw Tears of the Sun the day after it came out, I really was expecting morem so I was a bit disappointed. By the way ( I'm going into my military knowledge mode =-\ ), the technique used by the SEALs when they are firing and retreating is called "Leapfroging", but I am not 100% sure. Yeah, I loved the scene when they take out the village of soliders with suppressed pistols.  ;D
