Title: Fuck politics
Post by: Ace on February 20, 2003, 08:22:23 am
I'm tired of politic discussions. Moreso, there are other matters of much greater importance to attend to...

Today the Giants full squad reported after pitchers and catchers reported last Friday. It's looking damn good for the Giants again this year. Felipe Alou is going to make a great manager. Barry Bonds is still the most dominant player in the game, age be damned. The offense looks very nice in its revamped, speedy form. I can't wait to see Durham and Cruz running wild on the bases with Bonds looming in the box. The rotation is going to be solid with Schmidt and Rueter providing one of the most underrated 1-2 punches in baseball. Schmidt can light up the gun with the best of them, and no lefty outside of Randy Johnson has a better winning percentage than Rueter.

Oh yeah... BEAT LA!

I don't care about things like budgets and good players, the Twins fucking pwn. They have possessed one of the best records in the AL 3 years in a row on an Expos-sized budget. The spirit of Kirby Puckett lives on!!!

Well, the Tigers have brought in Alan Trammel to manage this year.  If he's half as good doing this as he was as a short stop, he'll be great.

On the flip side, I want to talk about Lou Whittaker getting cock-blocked on the Hall of Fame.  Not even on the ballot I heard yesterday.  What big stinking pile of horseshit is this?  He was a much better cluth hitter then Gibson, more solid, just not a home run hitter.  And he was part of a record breaking 6-4-3 double play combo.

Sweet Lou is being raped like a 135lbs white man in prison.  It aint pretty.

So anyway, the Colorado Rockies still suck.

Baseball is the worst sport to watch ever. It's fun to play but thats about it.

Any sport is more fast paced. Everyone spends 85% of the time standing. Once every few minutes there will be 30 seconds or so of action. Then it's usually a commercial break anyway.

I agree Colin, it is boring, especially to watch on TV. It's about the only sport I quit playing while growing up. But you need to be versed in it just because its America's game... and besides, what else is there to follow in the summer? Competitive lawn darts? Go Twins.

I know this is sort of off this topic but I just wanted ur opinions.

Last month the chicago white sox sold the naming rights to their home field "comisky park" to some major wireless phone company. Now its gonna be called like "verizon wireless park" or some shit like that. does anyone else think that is really stupid sounding besides me?!? ??? its like corporate america is taking over the world... :(

Corporate naming rights are such bullshit. Ever since those bastards sold the naming rights to Candlestick to 3COM, I've hated 3COM ever since. However, what pisses me off most is teams that have publicly financed stadiums and still sell name rights. You would think that after raping the citizens for hundreds of millions of dollars that they would name the stadium after an important civic figure, but Big Giant Corporation Stadium apparently sounds so much better.

What really sucks is that SBC is probably going to be pricks and change the name of Pac Bell Park. Seeing as how the Giants privately financed the stadium and the name rolled off the tongue so well, I could live with Pac Bell Park. but since SBC merged/took over Pac Bell, it's going to become SBC Park in a year or two. What a fucking gay name. I'll be counting down the years until the naming rights lease is up and the Giants can name it Barry Bonds Park in honor of the most dominating hitter in the game who led them to a World Series title in 2003 after coming oh so close in 2002. ;)

Fuck politics and fuck the Giants.

They traded away their workhorse Ortiz, lost a brilliant manager in Dusty Baker, and lost Bonds protection in Kent. Not to mention that Barry is falling apart at his old age (just had surgery) and the Giants will be lucky to return to the playoffs.

Oh yeah, winning percentage doesn't mean jack. Glavine has averaged more wins than Rueter and that is the most important statistic. People dont get into the HOF by going 109-68 [.615] (14-8 in 2002) compared to Glavine's 242-143 [.628] (18-11 in 2002). So my point is that Glavine is the better lefty - both in winning percentage and wins.

P.S. Fuck the Giants.

I sense the bitterness that could only come from a fan of a team who spends hundreds of millions of dollars on players yet can't make it to the postseason to save their life.

Sadly we had to trade Ortiz because of salary constraints, but if either Ainsworth or Foppert turns into half the pitcher they have been hyped as, we will be just fine. Dusty was an excellent player's manager, but his strategy was suspect at some times. Felipe Alou does the most with what he has, and what he has now is a hell of a lot.

Who cares about losing Kent. I'm going to be laughing my ass off when he flops in Houston. He was the hitter that he was because of playing with Bonds. Ray Durham, Jose Cruz, and Marquis Grissom bring some much needed speed and Edgardo Alfonzo will do a fine job of protecting Bonds.

Oops on the Rueter stat. I meant since 97. Before that he languished on those awful Expo teams. I'm sure Glavine's record wouldn't be nearly as impressive if he pitched for Montreal and not Atlanta for all those years. However, I'll admit Glavine is the better pitcher. But to try and insult Rueter for not being as good as Glavine would be like trying to insult Larry Walker for not being as good as Barry Bonds.

I'm looking forward to a nice 7th straight year finishing ahead of the Dodgers in the standing, not to mention the possibility of going back to the World Series. If you want Sin, I'll write a diary during October so you know what following a good team is like.

BEAT LA!

About the Rockies...I think they improved over the offseason by unloading Hampton who absolutely stunk (with the Rockies) and I think it is better to have more importance put on the ones who did well last year such as Rookie-of-the-year Jason Jennings.  The offense still is based around Walker and Helton and has a few other decent hitters...not nearly as deep as the best teams though.  Defense has been helped by getting Charles Johnson.  But with these changes the Rockies might go from beating the Padres to beating the Padres and Dodgers (just because it would make Ace happy).  Still no chance in hell that they'll make the playoffs.  Here's to Minnesota winning it all.

its like corporate america is taking over the world... :(

Tell me about it, the local park here is called COMERICA (It doesn't get any closer to COporate aMERICA then that)   ;D

Yep, I'm against it as much as anyone.  We still have The Palace and Joe Lewis Arena here, and I Ford Field is named after the owner, not to company, at least that's the story (and I'll swallow it just because I hate the other ones and the blue oval isn't used).

Oh, and speaking of SBC, didn't the government break up Ma Bell a long time ago?  Anyone else notice that all the "baby Bells" are being sucked back up?
