Title: Thank You Mauti! Post by: alaric on February 12, 2003, 08:42:15 am I want to take this opportunity to thank Mauti for running this place over the years. This has grown to be a truely wonderful place to hang out. I find it nothing less than astonishing that all these people can come together from all over the world to discuss a computer game, or a series of computer games, and from that humble beginning, build a whole community that has serious, thoughtful, and passionate debate about REAL issues that affect REAL people.
What's even more incredible than that is the huge range of ages, incomes and countries that are represented here. These forums are really are a world community. Though we all may not always get along, each of us is a part of something greater, here. Everyday something special happens here. Racial, age, income, cultural and geographic boundaries are crossed without a second thought. That is something that has rarely happend in the history of human civilization. If you don't believe me, think about it for a while, you'll see what I mean. Whenever the world gets too depressing, whenever I lose my faith in the human race, I can come here, to a place where thoughtful, rational people gather to exchange ideas. Yes, Mauti, I would even say that the founding fathers of my country would be very proud of what happens here. Everyday I come to this forum to learn about and discuss the day's issues and I find myself getting back much more than I put in. This forum has not only helped me sharpen my debate skills, it has also helped me to see the world in new ways, from new perspectives that otherwise I would have no exposure to. Well, this got a bit longer than I intended. Sorry about that, I didn't mean to preach... So once again, Thank You Mauti, for creating a place I can truely say I'm proud to be a part of.
