Title: Downtime
Post by: Cocobolo on September 09, 2002, 02:51:23 pm
Yeah the computer crashed on Friday, after installing DIRECT X 8.1, I rebooted and found that it had critically damaged my operating system and I could no longer boot the machine in normal mode. Yay microsoft!

Now I've saved it from crashes in the past, namely by installing 98 2nd edition upgrades on top of the existing OS (a trick we use here at work often), which restores original system files and usually lets the machine boot, and in the end usually doesn't require re-installing EVERYTHING... But this time it's not working. SO I got a new HD and I'm putting 2000 Professional on it. Should be back up in a couple days, till then I can't update the site. Well that sucks Coco. 2000 is an awesome operating system though so you should have absolutely no problems with it. I have yet to encounter ANY problems with 2K.

Yeah, stability is the idea... 98 is only slightly more stable than 95, which was a mess.. ME is worse than 98, like installing a virus on your machine, lol. And XP.... The verdict is still out on XP...

Got 2000 on there now, it picked up all the drivers with no problems, sweet. I began installing all the apps and everything so far is gravy. Although I work with computers all the time, when it's your computer you just don't want any hassles, lol.... 2000 impressed me immediately with it's stability and it's abilitly to close un-cooperative programs without locking or crashing. It's a great OS and it can be installed directly "on top" of your current 98, 95 or ME operating system without losing any data. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~damnr6/yabbse/YaBBImages/beer.gif)

winME SUX!!!! personal experience, i coulda told u that... and i got 98se now so i might think about putting 2000/NT on here...

as a matter of fact i have a friend who goes to NJIT, him and his buddies were experimenting on computers and once they took a computer with NT oin it and tried as hard as they could to overload it and get it to crash... IT WOULDNT.

Yeah, NT is pretty solid as far as that goes... It's like the 98/me interface with the NT nuts and bolts behind the scenes.. But remember, 2000 is the next evolution of NT, and is MUCH more user friendly than NT. I love it.

And 2K is a lot more "game friendly" than NT as well.
