Title: Goggles
Post by: Rigid Ice on August 27, 2002, 02:54:29 am
Hey,

I've tried to copy the hrt_m_glass file and rename it as, e.x., "ABC_m_glass". Then, I opened skin graft and replaced the hrt with the new file. Then, I went into the rommel file and scrolled all the way down and found the hrt glass file. I copied and pasted it, then renamed the hrt_m_glass as abc_m_glass. However, when I load a game with the uniform, it still doesn't work, why?

Check the rommel file for typo's and make sure that the text matches the standard one exactly except for the filename. Make sure all references in the CRP files match the new texture name. I never used skingraft so I can't help you with that part...

Here's what I did:

I opened black_light.crp in skingraft and changed the files.

Then, when I came to hrt_m_glass, I replaced it with my own file called BWI_m_glass.

I saved the crp file.

I opened Rommel.cxp.
(This is where I think the problem could be)

I scrolled ALL THE WAY down to something that said:

//  Characters
Material breach_glass.bmp????????????colorkey 0 0 0???softwarealpha???End
Material Art_H_glass.tga????????????alphablend??????softwarealpha???End
Material HRT_M_glass.tga????????????alphablend??????softwarealpha???End
Material BWI_M_glass.tga????????????alphablend??????softwarealpha???End

I added my BWI file and saved the rommel.cxp, but it still didn't work- I used a hex editer, but it had my BWI_m_glass.bmp file right there.

I was thinking that maybe I had to change the .tga part of my file to .bmp, so I did, but it still didn't work- please help!

-also, the bwi_m_glass file is just a copied and pasted hrt_m_glass file which means that it is 0 bytes and when you open it, there is no file at all.

If the texture file is 0 bytes, it's damaged or corrupted. Replace it and try again. Also, if you are using all 3 CRP's for your skins, make sure you edited them all.

One question though,

The hrt_m_glass file is also 0 bytes and still works and if I add some type of picture to my own, then in the game, the goggles won't be transparent- I'll still try and report back later...

Still doesn't work- I opened hrt_m_glass and made a simple white background, saved it, and it was transparent. Then I copied that file and renamed it BWI_m_glass.

I opened the rommel.cxp and copied and pasted the hrt_m_glass.tga line and renamed the hrt_m_glass to BWI_m_glass.

Then, I switched the crp file from reading the hrt file to my new BWI file. Yet, in the game, it was NOT transparent- ???

~Thanks

Make sure your file is a .tga, other than that it all looks ok on the surface.

Do I make sure that the rommel file has .tga, or do I actually make a blank image and save it as a TGA file and not RSB?

My computer just  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~damnr6/yabbse/YaBBImages/uzi.gif)messed up and it can't read my CD rom drive, so, I'm not sure if what I did worked.

Can you give me steps you do? Or, just keep helping me-

~thanks

I meant to make sure that the actual texture file is in .tga format... All the other stuff looked ok to me.

okay- i saved the white background image as BWI_m_glass.tga- does it matter what format it's in (32 bits, etc.)?

Then, I know you don't use skin graft, but i opened a crp file and replaced the hrt_m_glass with... uh oh- the tga file does not show- so what I did was replace it with the .rsb one-

NOW,

do I use a hex editer to change the .rsb in the crp files to .tga
- and how would i do that (work AXE hex editor, and anything else?)

Thanks

You shouldn't have to change any extensions in the crp's, EVER. I have a feeling that somehow this problem had something to do with the Skingraft utility, try it the standard way and see what you get. Like I said, it seems ok from what you are describing.

Now, just to be sure, this is to make the goggles transparent- I already know how to load a goggle file, but it will not be transparents.

So, I still need help making gogles transparent

please send steps, or something!?!?!

I'm not sure, I never was in the making of skins, but I think the crp files link materials to the model.
If this is true than:
1. There is an error in the link, open with a HEX editor(check if the texturename is correct)
2. The material is not transparent (TGAmaterial.rsb)open with photoshop and check the alpha channel.
3. The editing in the CXP file.

( trick to check the texture could be by making a copy of the original texture and save this one well. Overwrite the original texture with yours) If this works, restore the original one, and the error is in #1 or #3.

Before, I had NOT done anything to the transparent picture file- I just copied and pasted the hrt_m_glass file and renamed it. Then, I linked the crp file from skingraft to the new file.

However, this has not worked...

OK, I assume you probably have US TAC? Go in and copy the files for the Tac trainer 2, the one with the goggles. Insert the crp's and textures in place of yours, (rename CRP's to match yours) and see if it works. If so, you know the problem is with your files/texture. Start over without skingraft and you should have a good skin.

I do not have the US Tac Mod. The goggles are just the normal Rogue Spear goggles on HRT skins- im pretty sure it's my the rommel file or skingraft, but I copied and pasted the blank goggle HRT file and renamed it- well, i KNOW that the goggle file itself is fine- I tested.

The rommel, I'm not sure

and the skin-graft, I know has problems with goggles, so how would I use a HEX editor to actually change CRP files- I tried using one, but got a bit confused. But, in the HEX editor, would I just select the goggle file and rename it to my own goggle file-

Then the rommel, I hope it's fine-

.......

OKAY GUYS- I tried to get to you as fast as possible= I discovered this last night, but I couldnt get on the internet, so now, here I am!

In the skin graft, there are SKL files- I would always replace them without thinking what I was doing, so this time, I changed the rommel file, renamed the hrt_m_glass to my own file and linked to it from skin graft- HOWEVER, I did NOT replace the SKL file. I just copied, pasted (the HRT_black uniform) and renamed the file to match my uniform name and viola!

IT WORKED, I wonder how-... lets hope that solved it
for that may be the end of this particular thread!?! :o (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~damnr6/yabbse/YaBBImages/sleeping.gif)

Uhhh! Just when you thought it was over- i tried doing the same for one of my skins yet it didn't work- the only reason why the first one worked was becuase I saved changes into the wrong folder.

So, I give up, HOWEVER, I have one last question!

I will run my uniforms off the HRT_M_glass file. But, do you think people mess around with that- becuase then my goggles may look different.
