Title: A Question for Sin
Post by: Cossack on August 27, 2002, 01:11:55 am
Ok Sin you know in RS the most widley used gun is the pdw. Is there a super gun or a gun everyone uses in Ghost Recon? For Instance I am aiming to be a sniper. What is the best gun for that speciality?

Well, the choice of gun depends on if explosives have been turned on or off.

Here is a list of the most commonly used guns for each kit:

Rifleman: OICW (most widely used gun in game) Features single shot, 3 round burst and full auto...Grenade Launcher can be added on as a secondary but takes away from zoom capacity.

Demolitions: SA-80. Features single shot and full auto firing. Only reason why people choose a demolitions officer is when explosives are on...favorite secondary to come with this gun is the Anti-Tank Rockets (These mofo's pack one hell of a punch against enemies)

Support: Tie between M249SAW and M-60. Features single shot and full auto rampage (more accurate when in the crouched or laying down positions). Favorite secondaries are extra ammo, binocs, or greandes if you are feeling lucky. No fire team is complete with one of these bad boy's firing support fire in the general direction of the enemy. (Nothing scares you more in the game then seeing tracer fire coming near you  and ricoheting off the ground around you)

Sniper: I cant speak for others, but my favorite would be the M82A1 sniper rifle. Good zoom and it packs a punch with .50 cal ammo that comes in 10 round clips. But then again, I am more of a hunter than a covert ops type person (unless that is the game plan).

Cool thanks assasin. Are gun ranges accurate in Ghost Recon? Because I have been killed by pdw bullets at a range where you would be able to catch them.

Each gun has a maximum effectiveness range, so you cant strafe across huge maps and kill people on the other side (if it is a flat area). Don't worry, there are no real cheap ass guns like the PDW in Ghost Recon.

Sin, is there little need for Pistols in GR? RS is great because pistols are the secondary weapon, in my opinion...

tell me there is 3rd person :)
also are claymores like c4?

Pistols arent needed generally, but it wouldnt be a bad idea to take one along if you are a sniper. The pistol allows you to run faster and have a close ranged weapon (even though it takes several pistol hits to kill someone through body armor). For other kits, you are better of working with Rifleman Kits and working in pairs so one can cover while the other hits the deck and reloads.

You guys havent had fun yet until you do 10 vs 10 cb's  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~damnr6/yabbse/YaBBImages/rambo.gif)

Jeb: No 3rd person, but there are claymore anti-personel mines that kill people within a large radius. (Excellent for siege playing mode...defender sticks one in the goal [a plume of smoke] and looks at the timer...if the timer is counting for the enemy, that means he is in the zone and you detonate).

Wow, 10 v10... think of the possibilities (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~damnr6/yabbse/YaBBImages/shocked2.gif) (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~damnr6/yabbse/YaBBImages/shocked2.gif) sin, one more question, is 20 the max amount of players?

Title: Re:A Question for Sin
Post by: PsYcO aSsAsSiN on August 27, 2002, 03:10:52 am
Nope, 36 is the max...you can have 4 teams of 9, 2 of 18, or just a 36 person ffa.

Brings me to another point...you guys should try multiple clan cbs (i.e. 3 or 4 different clans fighting at the same time in one game) that shit is crazy.

what type of games are there, like team survival, assassination, stronghold, etc.
and if you do a 4 team game, when does the game end?
if you die can you view through other teams?

Yes, Assassin is right, 10vs10 cb's are the shit. One more reason why TO AoT is a great game.

if you die can you view through other teams?

Question 1: Flame, there are many types of games including:

Last Man Standing (Adversarial in RS): Used for FFA and Team matches

Siege: One team defends a base, the other tries to take it over

Domination: A series of bases across the map, a team needs to hold on to as many as they can to earn enough points to win. (Occupying a base gives you points)

Hamburger Hill: Defend a Hill from the enemy.

Recon: Never played this, so I dont know wtf it is.

Question 2: Game ends by a time limit set by host, or when all spawns are used up (aka, enemy annihilated)

Question 3: You cannot view other teams.

Another thing sin. Can you use Soviet weapons? I dont care how much they suck I love my Dragunov and AK-74!

Sorry, no Soviet weapons in the normal game mode for rifleman...but mods such as GRM4 incorporate the AK-47 and AK74SU. There is however the Dragunov SVD for snipers in the game.

does it take time to switch guns? and is the Crouching differant?

Yes it does take time to switch guns...a thing appears on your screen when you are switching or reloading. But the good thing is that you can fire when it goes off your screen...so you know when to hit the firing keys instead of guessing like in RS.

Crouching is similar but a little different...hard to explain.

***imagines the utter chaos and massive amounts of bodies a 10 v 10 cb would create***

COOL!!! (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~damnr6/yabbse/YaBBImages/rambo.gif)

Yeah, a lot of blood and dead bodies if you leave that option turned on...great using a teamates corpse as cover.

I doubt you can have a 10vs10 cb if a single person on Gameranger is hosting it. The only way you have 10vs10 cb's is if a OC48 server is hosting a game 24/7, which costs 70 dollars a month. I hope you guys don't think that you can host a 20 person game on GR and it will work fine... it doesnt work like that.

shit you're right ulti... sin, prove him wrong plz, that is very depressing  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~damnr6/yabbse/YaBBImages/ass.gif)

Title: Re:A Question for Sin

Well, most people on GR dont have T1 lines or higher so it would be hard to have 20 ppl in a game at once...another factor would be the processor speed of the host. I guess from what I hear someone like Robert would be able to host large games, provided that he activates the no explosives kit.

I've got an 800 Powerbook that I would be using as my main machine ( G4 ), as well as a dual ghz that I only use for cbs. Will the 800 be able to run it well?

I play Ghost Recon on a 1.2ghz P3 laptop...I am sure an 800Mhz G4 Powerbook can run it just fine.
