ok, i just have to ask the question.

what is it that you guys don't like about MaG?  it has some features (like a built in battle league) that gameranger is missing.  the only think mag doesn't see to do is have the automated joins like gr.  you still have to ip join.  but it has almost everything else.  ok, it could have set accounts with buddy lists, but that's just two things.

my only problem with it is that there aren't many people on it when i go there.  but when they are, it's usually all good conversation.  seems like an older crowd maybe.

but i'm interested in hearing why more of you don't go there.  especially those that are banned, or when gameranger is down.

I'm on mag sometimes, but I like gr more than I like mag, 'cause there is not as many people in mag as it is in gr.

My problem is that I am IP Join stupid...except in MoH, I can handle MoH IP joining...hey that is the only game I play...I could go to MaG.

My problem with MaG is that I can't get it to work.

try downloading a new copy.  you may be behind one rev, or pointing to the wrong ip.  they have changed ip's for the server a couple of times.  they list the current ip on their homepage.

i like it, but yes you do end up ip joining. i think a newer version is sposta be coming out sometime

The main reasons are:

1) People are lazy. Heh, make automated joining possible. People hate ip joining. You have to open the game, get to multiplier, tab out, find the ip, write it down, enter it, get the right port, and hit join. GEEEEEZ... [SARCASM] Way too much work. [/SARCASM] :) In truth, though, it is one of the reasons. Think about it, you could just enter a gameroom, or you could go through those steps...

2) No BL's... When I logon, and go to the Construct, I look around and spot no one, and logout... What if people were in the B&G though?(as they normally are!) I just missed a hopping conversation, If Buddy Lists were involved, I could spot them on my BL, and realize they were online...

3) Lack of advertising.. GameRanger is an app that comes within several games, such as Rogue Spear, Rainbow 6, Heroes, Warcraft, etc... I never had heard of MaG until I came onto the *DAMN forums... Maybe, if you got you're name out there, people would try and get your app.

4) Account Numbers... Everyone loves to call someone else a noob sometime... :)


Anyway, I bet if you fixed all those features, then got a lot of games that the automated join works with, you would have a BOOMING application. I know I sure as hell would be there... Course, I'm there now...

the scripting the games to load and connect is probably a bitch.  even evill doesn't get it to work with every game (elite force anymore for example).  evill has the cooperation of the game publishers, which helps (especially if they can give you the api to point at).  i wouldn't expect this from the guys at mag though.  they don't sell ad space and are doing this just out of the goodness of their own hearts.

as for the buddy list, it would be nice (you'd have to set up accounts to make it work), but also with mag, you can see everyone that is online, no matter what room they are in.  so you wouldn't just miss them.

also, i like the fact that mag has a built in clan battle ladder system.  it also controls who shows up in a clan (if the clan leader doesn't accept you, you can't be listed under that clan.  all automated).  

but, for you guys that get banned (there is always some people banned), i can't imagine why you wouldn't use mag.  for those that hate gr and evill (or because of evill), i also wonder why you don't just move over to mag en mass.

my only conclusion is, that those that bitch the most about gr, but don't use mag, are just bitchy people.  since you could do something about it and don't, your gripes about gameranger must be more bad attitude then fact.  

before some of you flame me, read that last part carefully.  it says FOR THOSE THAT BITCH THE MOST.  not everyone that has ever bitched about it.

I did move over to MaG you silly goose. I'm on more then you and Bucc combined already... Heh... Another reason people don't like it is... Lack of Admins. You could make me an admin if you wanted!!! (that last part's a joke... Except for the me being an admin part, that'd be great)

um ben, you are confusing macclans chat with mag.  mag has been around for 6 years or so, and i'm not an admin there.

 Nice to see some people like Deadeye and Mauti on MaG chat, without GameRanger, there are very few people that I get to talk to, nice to see you guys :)

Aaaah! MaG, I had that once too. [SAC] Skippy brought me to it after my first ban (when I was still [SAC]). Zaitsev (EUR) told Skip about it... Hehehehe, Yah I met Greybeard there I believe... I dropped it because there were never more then 4 people in the room.. :(
